What are the rarest Slingerland wraps/finishes from th 60's-70's?

Loading...

Hey everyone! Sorry if this is the wrong thread... my first time posting here...

I just purchased a 64' Slingerland Deluxe Outfit, I'm going to refurbish it a bit and would love to keep the original wrap. Well, not the original because it is cracked all over the place, but the same design. Except, I cannot figure out what wrap it is... It's possible this was already a rewrap and that's why I can't find it on any of the vintage drum sites? Anyway, maybe someone here can help? My pics keep failing to upload... The wrap now is a black undertone with red sparkle, but the sparkle is spread out, not tight together. Kind of reminds me of the merlot sparkle, but not as bright. The black really stands out to make it look like dark blood red with the reflection of the red sparkle... Any ideas?

Thanks!

Welcome Gmajor, sounds like you may have Black Sparkle Pearl:

I'd say " root beer" sparkle (Phil Rudd's AC/DC 1st kit was an "Avante" model with that finish)&two tone black&gold sparkle (Virgil Donati's 1st kit) was a double kick in that finish.

Very nice Modern Solo 2R Dave. Did you purchase them new or used? Care to share some serial numbers? First three digits is fine if you don't want to post entire number (e.g. 230xxx).

Hello Again Slingerfan.....I'm in Florida now....Serial numbers on the black and brass badges are as follows:

Bass Drum...232240

12" Tom.....235276

13" Tom.....229544

16" Floor....232294

The Snare was bought on ebay a few years back....it has a black and silver badge......101622

Can you tell me the approx. date the snare was made?

Thanks

Hey Dave, Your black/brass badge lavender flames 229xxx-235xxx are consistent with '69. Did you purchase these new in '69? Very cool kit. Black/silver badge 101xxx would be expected for ~ '73. Is the lettering raised from the background on this badge? Could you post some pictures of the snare?

I did buy these brand new in December of 1969....Back then I used a metal Ludwig snare. The snare badge doesn't have raised lettering.

Thank you Dave, what a great kit. Any chance you still have the original sales receipt? Lack of raised lettering on the snare badge solidifies the expected '73 date for this drum. A clear maple interior would be expected for this snare.
