Rogers Pink Ripple Pearl wrap

From Jaye

replace the lugs with some kinda lug that fits (I think old ugly Pearl lugs might fit original B&B holes) and keep the pretties in a shoebox someplace

I think the Kent lugs might fit, also. Something to think about.

Honestly, if you get yourself in a bind, there are others that would buy the drum from you with no problems. I, myself, am not so much of a stickler. I wouldn't think twice about popping the wrap and matching the drum to my kit. It's not a return on the money thing, to me. It's a pleasure thing. I would enjoy the heck out of it. I passed on a Ruby Strata kit 'cause it was faded to pink. I can't see myself playing a pink drum. Just wouldn't be right. I'd probably kick my own butt for doing it. But, if the lug holes have been 'opened' up to fit the BT, then so be it. Damage is already done. Pop the wrap and slap on a matching cover and play away. Sweet sounds.

So wait you said before you'd be refunding. Are you now challenging the buyer's request for a refund? If it's not too late to submit your position let me know.

Basically you can't let ebay or paypal decide as they have no effing idea what is B&B or beavertail and how to tell the difference. I would offer to accept the final judgment of a drum expert like Steve Maxwell --whoever is close to the buyer (since he has the drum). If buyer is right you refund and pay for the opinion. If you are right, he pays the appraisal and can go pound his new 14" drum.

I think you need the input of some respected Rogers Collectors on this. Ive seen elongated holes before, you do not have them on this drum, not in the pic Ive seen. I would fight it. I think the real problem here is buyers remorse, and hes not happy with the color match.

I agree with the Ploughman on those holes. The pic on the other page do not look to be drilled out. I've handled a few of those bread and butter lug drums. People do all sorts of crafty things to get them to play after a lug breaks. Gretsch lugs fit with around an 8th enlarged difference. Some import lugs fit right in. Any other lug placement in place for a while would leave a ghost shadow imprint of the exterior pressing into the pearl wrap...not seen here either.

It is a DRASTIC looking thing to see the hole patern on a b+b lug drum drilled out to accept a beavertail. Either both holes have to be enlarged a bit in the up direction or one hole, usually the top toward edge, has to be complete figure eight-ed out. Also if a hole is larger than another but still in full circle on those early b+b drums maybe the tiny metal bushing fell out. If this was an add on "ordered" Holiday model with a different interior tag...could be an older shell used up with later beavertail hardware drilled out initially in the factory. The pic on the other page does NOT look altered in any home shop way to me. Keep us posted. Peace, Gary

I agree with you 100% and even not being a Rogers expert it's clear there is nothing changed about that drum.

The problem, as I tried to express above, is that ebay/paypal will be inclined to side with the buyer in the sense that the seller will get the item back and can resell.

That is why I think the best way for seller to win his case is with a recognized "expert", even though you and I know there are people who know far more than the dealers, that is what will carry the day if anything for our fellow VDF-er.
