I just got these from Dave's Drum Shop in Canada

Star made clear acrylic 5 pc but no snare

bass drum hoops have been changed

and some of the rods on the batter side

Boy were those two toms tough to adjust to my liking

which is fairly close together, even and slightly tilted downward

(not pictured these few are seller's pics)

The deluxe Star made double tom holder

(the only Star kit in my whole bunch that has one) which I thought would be pretty adjustable

is actually sort of limited and cumbersome

That aside, they are pretty cool

I actually bought that mount except on a rail back around 1972. I was also disappointed mainly because you have no depth adjustment. It is where it is...

Nice!

I scored a very similar kit off of CL a week ago. Mine has replacement black BD hoops, like yours. The 13" tom was wrecked years ago (by first owner), but it did come with a matching snare. You don't see these kits to often.

I'll give these the Novus 1 and 2 treatment, plus new heads. Mine has some non original BD tension rods, on the batter side. I'd like to track down some matching original ones.

Cheers.

Hello TG

super nice find there

I would sure love to find a snare for my kit

Not sure about using the Novus on the clear acrylics?

might be just fine, but make sure first, and Good Luck with them

Tom those mounts really tested my patience

I do have one other kit like yours with the similar piece mounted on a rail

that one is limited also , but is still more functional than these "two from one" post style

If I'm not mistaken, novus was mostly used for taking scratches out of acrylic aquariums. The first video I ever saw on how to use it was on an acrylic fish tank.

Here is my MIJ kit. 1980 Pearl Big Beat outfit in Walnut lacquer. Shells are G-series 8 ply Maple. 6mm thick with no re-rings, and rounded 45 degree bearing edges. Sizes are 13/14/16/18/24. Paired with a 6.5x14 late '70s Pearl COB Jupiter snare they sound absolutely AMAZING!!!

This is by far the best sounding kit I've ever played. They do need to be cleaned up since I found them in a pawn shop, but I've just been too busy playing them to want to take the time to clean them yet lol. I'm in no hurry though since they're definitely not going anywhere. I'll be keeping this kit for sure!

Hi - here's some pics of my Star kit in a Blue Ripple wrap which over the years turned into a Brown Ripple Wrap. It's the thicker no re-rings shells painted black on the inside.
