Considering a matching floor tom will be hard to find, and costly, and almost impossible to match drum to drum, and the fact that they're B and B lugs...I think the seller will be holding onto them a long time.

I'm with Rich on this one. A matching FT can be very difficult to find in Wine Red Ripple. I like the originality and condition of the 3 piece, but think his price is a bit ambitious.

I think of the three ripples, sky blue is the least seen.

I think there is a FT on ebay, but it is a 14" and will go for big bucks.

talking about 14" floors... were those so un-common in the old days? cause really whenever they pop up on CL or ebay , they really seem to go for much money, no matter if ludwig, rogers or whatever...... what about 18"s? more common....?

Rogers 14" floor toms were alot less common than 16's. The biggest selling configuration during the early to mid 60's was 20,12,16. 18" Rogers FTs were not seen during the early to mid 60's. You start seeing them in the Fullerton (70's) era. I'lkl let someone else chime in on Slingerland and Ludwig.

14x14's all around are very hot commodities...but indeed, Slingy and Luddy definitely made more of 'em so they only tend to go for about $200 as orphans, in good shape.

I dunno...I mean, I wouldn't pooh-pooh the seller of these too much...he's a bit high in asking price, but seriously...if the kit is as cherry as he says - including th B& B's being uncracked - and it DOES include the original Rogers hardware/stands...& he can be talked down a hundred or two....it ain't a horrible deal.

I would offer $1500-1600 and see if he bites. I agree he ain't gonna get $1800 for it, unless there's some dude in the US who happens to have a pink ripple FT in the basement somewhere.

I mean, figure if they are half-decent vintage cymbals, you can sell those immediately for $200.

So, although nabbing a non-matching orphan 14 on eFlay would cost you over $400, then having the wrap to match made up....another, what ?....$150-200...?

...when all is added up, at the end of the day...$2.1g for a kit in this finish isn't really an absurd investment.

Yes it will.

But for anyone who has a few hundred left on their credit card cash advance balance, this is a unique harmonic convergence opportunity...don't you think ??????

I mean, c'mon...this kit on C'list, AND (not ONE, but TWO !) matching-color FT's on eFlay, at the same time ?????

Problem is, they dont match. The drums on ebay, are the 18..... which has a powertone/fullerton tag, and the 14, a cleveland yorktown/holiday tag. The chicago drums are 1962-63. The Yorkie could be 63-64, and the powertone, .....is fullerton, 69-70ish. So, these drums are beavertail drums. The yorkie could be a three ply. The fullerton is a definite five ply. The chicago drums could be three ply jasper or three ply keller. And......they are Bread and Butter lugs, problematic in itself. The powertone snare is unplayable. PERIOD. His price is fantasy land.

I think I understand better than most the problems of matching drums in this finish, and the difficulty of accurately capturing it in a photo. Ive taken hundreds. It is an extremely difficult finish to photograph with any measure of accuracy.
