brass premier 2000 snare??

Hi guys- anyone help me with any info on this snare???

I bought a new kit, and it was advertised with a 2000- when I went to pick up, the shell was brass( the advert pics only showed the top hoops!).

its a 14 x 6" , 10 lugs, die cast hoops, flobeam strainer etc.

the shell looks to be a slightly hammered and lacquered brass on the outside( think of a sabian solar cymbal) but plain brass inside.

I found 1 reference on the web to the 2000's being made from brass in the early days, before moving to steel, but I can only see the C.O.B mentioned anywhere else.

any info would be greatly appreciated- thanks in advance

Hi,

Not really an "expert" in Premier but I did find something that I think may help you.

A 1980 -81 outfits catalogue, I used to have this, as I left school in 1980 and remember this catalog VER WELL. I worked in a music shop for 6 months after leaving and ordered my Premier soundwave set from this very catalogue.

I found they did a 14x6.1/2 Orchestra snare in brass.

Wow- that is brilliant. Thanks chap. I was looking at earlier catalogues thinking it was more 60's!! Doesn't matter either way- its a great snare- and I'm keeping it ��

Badge with a serial number means it is early 70's onwards?

It may not be brass but an alloy one sprayed with paint as they also did that to some later snares.

Ahh I see, looking at the catalogue pages that someone showed me I'm sure its the 2007 model- just need to find more info on that now. ��

I will have a good look to see if i can find any evidence of a 'paint job'!

The funny thing is that my two brass royal ace snares don't look that colour either and more like steel inside.

Tbh the pic makes it look a bit more 'brassy' than it is- like I said it has some kind of lacquer on the outside ( you can see its worn off in places like the bearing edges).

The shell is brass though- just took off the internal damper and its brass where its been drilled.

I believe that is a limited edition Brass snare from around the Genista period. I have also seen a Genista brass limited edition, but I have mostly seen them with the XPK style lugs. They seem to pop up in my local ads once in while.

Thanks for the info- I've found the snare I think you mean- the carmine appice signature model? And that seems to fit except for the shell depth. I have to say that the drum feels older than 90's, I have a 2032 from that era and that seems much 'newer' some how?!? Maybe the brass snare had a hard life!!

Looking through all the premier catalogues reminds me of how many good snares that premier made over the years.

It may be an orchestral version but you can see the paint flaking off so has been painted to make it look more gold colour.
