1960's Leedy Drums

Loading...

So the gentleman I bought my 1938 Ludwig & Ludwig kit from reached out to me today. He is parting ways with a 1960's Leedy ( Slingerland made ) kit he has. I'm wondering if I should buy and restore, or buy it, give it a cleaning, and re-sell. It's more a bop style kit, and I wouldn't use it much, if ever. Here are the specs -

They are from 1962-63 and are in the rare Fiesta Pearl finish. They have the expected yellowing from age. There is a 12" rack, 14" floor and 18" BD.

I'm not sure as to how rare this finish really is. No snare or cymbals, but everything else looks to be there and in good shape. I'm really not looking to add another kit, but if I do buy I will likely sell and would want to find them a great home.

The price he is asking is a great one, but given the overall condition what would you think the value is?

What would you think is a far price to pay for these? I think the price he is asking is fair, but wouldn't mind a little insight before I commit myself.

Wow! Rare sizes and color indeed.

If it were me, I'd restore and keep them. But looking at the pics, they need a fair amount of work and some parts. I'd say $500-600 tops in that shape.

Restored, perhaps north of $200.

Some more photos of the drums.

Fiesta Pearl is rarer than Mardi Gras. I would try to keep the original

wrap. Not sure what you could do to "whiten" it up. Good luck with these.

I'd absolutely keep this wrap, even yellowed it seems to be in great shape and looks killer. I'm not 100% what can be done to " whiten " the wrap, but I'm gonna see if I can find a way. And for price the guy is asking $200. So I'm gonna say yes to grabbing these. Rare sizes, color, and absolute silly price.

And I would love to re-foam and re-leather the seat.

$200 hope they are in the car heading home. No need to do anything to the wrap. Outstanding kit!! I would be an interested buyer as well.
