1960's Leedy Drums

Loading...

I have had drums with so much nicotine on them...that, after removing all lugs etc,and spraying Windex on them.....a dark yellow stream came running down the sides of them!...Always a good sign!..Then,of course, drums were much closer to original finish then..much brighter...

I had a set once..where I swear there was a 1/16" coating of nicotine on everything!..Cymbals too!..YUK!

Find some liquid ***eler's rouge. I've used it to clean and restore paint luster on antique toys, original finishes on wood surfaces as well as lacquer finishes on vintage drums. If that yellowing is on the surface the rouge should remove it without damaging the wrap.

Never play it the same way once.

I have had lots of sets/drums in close to 30 years..but,only ONE SlingLeedy 18"..and I recall that being just a single BD..and,it was around 1990 when I got it!>>Just some food for thought! Can't remember the finish...WMP?

Oh..only had 1 SlingLeedy set in Fiesta too!..Wanna say 22,13,16?..

16" had a bunch of (factory) glue running down the inside of it,and always bugged me..so..I sold them!

If you're planning on selling the set...leave it as it. That's not a set to experiment on.

I'm sure you'll do well selling it as is.

Here's my snare...

Got the drums home today and man they look great. Just gonna give them a basic cleaning. I've taken the lugs off and all mounting hardware. The drums really are in awesome condition. Little rust on the tom mount but that's it. All the rims and tension rods are original and are a little tarnished, but nothing a little vinegar bath can't solve. Still had the original calf skin bass drum head on the batter side, I'll likely leave that with the kit. I'll toss a new batter head on, and fresh heads on the toms. I am planning to sell, so I'll likely make a post on here within the week after I'm set with re-assembly.Get some good photos of each drum inside and out. I'll keep everyone posted.

So I noticed something with the floor tom leg brackets and legs. I noticed I had two spare ones with the box of tensions rods, upon inspection I realized that those two are the originals to the drum. Two that were on the drum were later Slingerland models. Subsequently the floor tom legs are too big for the original mounts. If I were to fashion new legs from metal dowels and leave them straight as they were originally would that drastically alter the value? The mounts themselves have their internal parts and one needs a wing screw. Outside of that I can't see anything that isn't original as far as hardware.

Should have the push button version of the FT leg holders.

Never play it the same way once.
