This is with a 24" bass drum. I have all my snare stands out on this kit,lol

I use a snare stand for one of my three toms. The other two are mounted on my bass. It's a vintage Star fifteen inch marching snare with the snare off and Evan's black chrome batter head. It barely fits on the stand but, has an incredibly deep tone which contrasts nicely with the other two.

The Bass Drum and Floor tom have there original wrap. Red and Champagne Sparkle. The 14" I wrapped to match them. It originally came with a 12 X 8 tom with the same wrap but I sold it cause I needed the $$$$. Wish now I hadn't but.

I love mounting my rack tom on a snare stand. I never use any type of bass drum mount unless it's a rail, but even then I prefer the snare stand. If it's two toms then I will use my DW 9000 stands and mount the toms to those since they are SOLID stands. Ludwig's Atlas flat base snare stand works really great for rack toms, and snares too!

I would also suggest mounting your rack tom (if using a snare stand) like the picture attached, it gives just a little more resonance to the drum should you want it.

I usually do, even if I have the tom mounts.

Thanks to Drumguy1988 and Timmy for the tips about using padding in the basket and having the jaws grip the hoop!! I`ll have to try them out...

There is a company that makes a product called booty shakers and little booty shakers. Basically it's neoprene that Velcro attaches to the snare basket.

I'll mount my toms either way. I have a Yamaha turbo tour custom with a 14x14 rack tom that I set up bonham style and I run that on the snare stand because it sits too high on the 24" bass drum. However it puts it far to the left. On shallower toms I always mount on the kick. Drums are imperfect, cross talk between kick and tom are part of the deal. Especially on vintage drums.

Not a problem at all. I would definitely try it out and see if you dig it, it's kind of an in-between to resting it on the basket and mounting it with a tom arm/rail.

I try to keep my hardware the same, as I switch set ups. So I have to keep track of various spurs and tom legs. Most of the time I use the same old snare stand for the ride tom to keep at least one thing consistent. (Lazy man's answer.)
