Thanks for that info Mark. I'm thinking I will leave the red alone simply due that it is factory. Not crazy about that Red Violin finish on the exterior. My thought now is to make it 1 up 2 down and not worry about the 12. I would however be interested in a 14" to place on my left next to the hihat. A few weeks ago I set my Club dates up right next to my Camco's and started playing the Club date floor tom with my left hand when playing the Camco's, kind of fun. My drum teacher has been working with me on moving my hands around the kit and I'm really getting the feel of it, having a tom sitting there helps.

As far as finish goes, I was driving my car yesterday and thinking of the red drums. My car is painted candy brandy wine, a gold base with the wine color candy over it. I thought it would be cool to make the drums match the car, so I'm thinking a gold sparkle base with level sealer tinted to a wine color and a gloss top coat. It would be like gold sparkle under a transparent red wine, any thoughts on that?

Oh, and I will probably use the super set-o-matic tom mount instead of plugging the holes and making the bass drum a virgin, at least that's the plan today.

My thought is it would look amazing. That's my thought. :)

Here is a pic of a copper one I did when I was just starting to spray drums. This one had a clear coat over it. Im thinking the wine colored laq over the gold flakes will be cool.

Got a snare shell coming, pics posted soon. It's a funny one!

Here is the snare shell I found. It had a cloth material glued to it which came off very easy. I do have some adhesive and white paint to remove but looks like this drum originally might have been mahogany, I dont see any signs of wrap removal in other words, I cant find any places where the veneer was pulled off or damaged from a wrap removal.

Well one thing is for sure, that was probably done in the 1970's,lol. But hey, it may have protected the shell over the years. Good score though.

Thanks Mitch and Jay. You know how guys find amazing wraps under contact paper and similar products, well I was hoping to fine that but the mahogany will do. Problem is now I have a mahogany snare and 16" floor tom shell but the others are maple so Im not sure what to do with this project.

Nice snare Jeff! That sparkle paint looks like a good idea! Or maple/mahogany veneer depending on which you prefer. Whatever you do it'll be awesome as all your resto's are.
