Nice Jeff. Yep old adhesive is a pia for sure. Glad you got it sorted out. Like the color choice too. Those were cool shells you did. :)

You're doing a great job, Jeff! The red dye on that shell looks very similar to my Cherry Wine Superstar kit from the mid 80's. A Beautiful color!

From FFR428

P=pearl/glitter/sparkle wrap covering. M=maple/natural/painted finish. I'm sure you'll get that adhesive off no problem.

+1 on this. I think you could veneer a "P" stamped shell as long as the veneer is not thicker than wrap. I don`t think I would try it with a "M" stamped shell, might not get a head to fit on the shell.

Thanks, it was actually matched to a Pearl drum, came out real close. The dye I have is not an exact match to the original "Violin red" that Slingerland had but I like my color much better and it will work good considering I wont be able to remove the red that is deep down in the grain of the maple. I am tempted to add a little gold flake to it but not sure about that yet.

Thank you!

Here is a pic of the kit with my finished drums together with some original Pearl finished drums.

And a pic of the raw shells before the process.

I think I could live with this color.

Drums look great ! What did you decide to do with that snare shell

. I have been looking for one to wrap in vintage sky blue Pearl to complete my 60's Slingerlands.

Tim, thank you. I have the snare shell all cleaned up and ready for a new finish. The floor tom is the issue now, looking like I might just apply a maple veneer over that mahogany and be done with it.

Thank you!
