I won't let you down! I'm psyched for this one. I'm going to start with the snare drum tomorrow. The shells are 3-ply maple/poplar/maple w/2-ply maple re-rings. Big, round edges on them. These babies are going to sound FAT and warm and with the maple, they'll 'probably' project well too. Follow the thread, it'll be fun to watch the drum by drum transformation. Projects like this are custom-made for VDF. :p

John are the mounts for the toms all there? Just the clip on the bass style I guess?? Everything is built so well. And the blue marine pearl is so so so so nice!! Never seen anything like it. Oh btw did W&A use Gretsch shells back then?
John, Very cool story and some very cool looking drums! Man, this is going to be fun watching you get those babies "all tweaked in". That wrap is just going to look awesome when your done. Really nice of Glenn to help you out. You the man Glenn! Tommy
> did W&A use Gretsch shells back then?
There was a mention in an article I read online that W&A used Gretsch shells. There is no mention about how far back the relationship with Gretsch goes. The shells on these drums are 3-ply maple/poplar/maple with/2-ply maple re-rings. Gretsch used 3-ply shells, but they didn't add re-rings. The core/basic shell could easily be 3-ply Jaspers. How far back was Jasper in North Carolina supplying 3-plies to Gretsch in Brooklyn? If W&A got the shells from the Gretsch Brooklyn plant then the shells were Jaspers. Lots of interesting questions connected to this kit. I hope somebody who knows something about vintage W&A chimes in. I'm all ears.
Post a shot of the thank you gift, Glenn. Jeff is itching to see what it is... :p

Ok Jeff here's a pic. I'm still in shock. I'm adding more pics later to my Rogers thread as some other things are complete on that one too. This is one sweet sounding snare drum! John thanks again man!! Kiss :D
Wow Glenn, that is a nice gift. Nice of John to give that, he sure didn't have to. But on the other hand, you spent a lot of your time and gas to help him out so you sure do deserve it. I always knew you were one of the nicest guys on the forum and would go out of your way to help a member, this is proof that you are that guy, good for you buddy!!!!
