Slingerland Gold Veil Find?

Loading...

Hey Drum Bug,

Looks to me they are slingerland, four hole rail consolettes. I do think that the set started as a single tom, then the second on was added later to make it doubles. Are there any extra holes under any of the rails, where it could have been an earlier two hole rail and then changed to what you have. Also my floor tom has push button leg mounts. Hope it helps.

The holes look symetrical and the fading is exactly the same

Im assuming its a custom order...The holders are original right?

Vinny,

This is a neat finish! Were you able to tighten up the wrinkled wrap? If so, how? I'm not facing this issue, but curious to know how if I ever have to tackle this.

I own a 1965 Slingerland Champaigne sparkle set. S-land did not apply

badges on their toms in this era. My 16" and 20" toms do not have badges.

My inner shells are clear-coated. It wouldn't hurt to contact Precision

Drum in New York to see if they might have some left over gold veil wrap in

their archives to aid in their restoration. I do believe that Sling did offer

some of their sets w/2-12" rack toms. Please show some pictures as your

project progresses. I e-mailed you on the request for the 20" 8-hole tom

hoop/rim. You DO have a rare wrap with this set!!!

I would leave the interiors alone. Stripping paint is a messy job, takes you down to the wood, & requires you to put in a second artificial finish anyway. Might as well keep them as is, & focus your effort on cleaning up the exterior.

I stripped black paint from a 18" floor tom once. The maple had sucked the paint into the pores. NEVER AGAIN WILL I DO THAT! Good luck with what ever you decide. Cool drums!

Good lord! I bought these like 4 years ago and they're still sitting there untoched on their cases...I wish I could have the time to put some labor in to them..

Sorry but it has way too many issues...The paint, the wrinkling on the wrap. Specially the wrinkling. I tried but its beyond my skills...
