Amati - Czechoslovakian drums

From Fllx

Here are some pics of my first drum kit ever, an Amati. I think I still have the kick pedal somewhere around here.Gilnar, you can see a set of Romanian 'Doina' drums in the last pic, the red ones. Like I said, not too interesting :)

There`s a thread on the Vintage Drum Forum section right now about our 'first drum kits' including all brands of drums. You should post these on there-very cool set and i`ve never seen one.

That's alright -- alu-foil stickers are original. It's 80's version drums with multilayer shells. There were a diecast logo for that version placed on double tom-mount --- missing on this kit.George.

Thanks George :) That Amati sounds great, probably it comes from beech wood :)

You can easy to define this - the Amati shells interiors were inky marked---- B - beech, or M - maple.

Hmm, are you sure about this, George? It might have been different with export shells, but the Amatis I have are marked differently. For example, rack tom has "H," snare and bass have "E", et cetera. I am quite certain that From the early 60s, Amati used beech exclusively for their drums and while I have a 1960 snare shell from birch (or possibly poplar) with beech re-rings, I've never seen a maple Amati. "H" or "E" couldn't possibly mean any drum wood in Czech or English. It might be some sort of factory code, I mean, it sure is, but I don't think it would indicate types of wood.

Once again, I don't know anything about how much were export Amatis different from those meant for domestic market.

This one Amati belonged to "JNA" (former Yugoslav People Army :) ). So, I think it was "domestic", ie Czechoslowakien...

Hi Gilnar,

Well, I don't know what about domestic market... :) But in former SU Amati were marked whole correctly - it was definitely true on wood.

And now let you see a couple of amusing pics - the US ambassador in Russia, Korea (now deputy NATO head) Mr. Alexander Vershbow playing on Amati in 2005 with russian country-folk-band "Corn"... :D

Cheers,

George.

I checked out and it had only one capital "M" letter inside of BD, no letrers inside of other parts... :( seems to be maple, or...?

Hey, could you post a picture of the bass drum interior? It should be fairly easy to determine what kind of wood it is.
