Valley Drum Shop Blaemire SN

Loading...

This restoration turned out pretty well.

Only 1 extra hole behind the strainer.

Filled.

Trued, squared, re-alligned lug layout, new snare beds and bearing edges.

New slingy air grommet tapped in to tight hole, no crimp.

New rims and rods. P-85 from stash.

It looks outstanding! I was reading somewhere that using made in USA hoops can fix the splay of the tension rods. Something about asian made hoops being slightly larger on-center hole to hole than the made in USA ones. Try some old Ludwig hoops on the drum and see if it doesn't eliminate the tension rod splay.

Sweet drum!

John

The photo really exagerates the splay.

It's really not that bad. Rods are loose in pic.

The original rims created way too much splay.

These are new ones that are smaller in diameter and reduce splay,

recommended by Drumjinx.

I think when it is all tightened up it will be fine.

I think this is the best I can do regarding splay, other than shimming lugs or grinding larger holes in rim.

I think I am good...........for now.

Scott - I didn't mean to take anything away from the masterful job you did restoring that drum, splay is a -minor- thing. You killed on that drum! It looks great.

I'm GREEN with envy.

You can always shoot straight with me.

Tell it like it is brother.

I actually did not see how splayed those rods were in the pic.

I just thought of 1 more solution for splay.

Jerry said it should have flat Imperials instead of the ones for a beaded shell.

I agree.

Well,........I have some of those flat IMPS and the backing plates that go with them.

Lugs plus Backing Plates= no splay and cool retro look.
