Ok...so I'm ignorant when it comes to Blaemire drums. What's all the hubub about these fiberglass shells? No disrespect if any was made...I just don't know anything about these drums. Educate me, Fellas.
Well, I will start.
Hand made by a dude in his Garage.
Used by Hal Blaine on hundreds of hit records.
Loud but not like metal. Like wood on a little steroid.
Great tone that lasts.
Very cool looking.
Can be tuned very low. Or jazz high.
No more available until Jenkins Martin started making even better shells than these.
New ones are available. Jenkins/Martin Drums.
I enjoy restoring the old ones. Nostalgic.
First drums I ever built......or tried to build. "What is that hole for?"

Right on, man. Thanks for the info. I guess no one was making fiberglass shells before this?

Pearl started around the same time or perhaps later than Allen.
Info. on timeline for Pearl fiberglass would be good guys.
Anyone know?
? Who was first. Allen Blaemire or Pearl?

Well...both Allen and Kirsten tell me it was about 1962 that Allen began winding Blaemire shells. Pearl came well after that (1970-ish) as well as Fibes (1966).
GGD those look like Rogers lugs, claws and T's on those? Were they built like that or did someone add them later? That's a wicked cool setup~! I'm saving up for a new set of these from J/M. :) Someday~! flowers2

They were built like that..........by me..back in about 1979.
My first real set was a Rogers (natural maple).......so I just kept on going with that hardware.
Still do today. But no swivo stuff.
That set up in pic has changed.
Pic was just to show all the drums.
However I did play that set up for awhile.
Now it is much smaller.
20 BD, without the kickport. Anybody need one? or 2?
2 up 1 down.
Thanks Drumjinx for the Blaemire Pearl timeline.
I was not sure who was first. Thought it was Allen. Yeah it was!

Hey Aaron,
The Blaemires are nothing like Pearl or Fibes, they are spun fiberglass. They are much more musical, as when you strike the shell, they ring out like a note. They are warm, but when you lay into them, they project like crazy. If you want to try out a snare, let me know.

Mondozart is totally correct.
But to be truthful, when I did a Pearl 70's 16" Snare.
I stripped the shell and hit it naked just to see if it was like a Blaemire and made a tone when struck. It actually did. Just not as loud or as musical as a Blaemire. But it did ring.
OK it wasn't a really great ring. Kind of a clunk with a bong.
Really..a bong?
