What would you do in this situation

I would like some opinions from members of what you would do in this situation.

I rarely sell anything and I recently sold something to a known member here. I then realized the item was something I had not intended to sell. It was the match to other vintage items I have that all came together that I use frequently.

I messaged the member that I would give them back a few dollars more and pay return shipping to send the item back. This was before he received it. Once he got the item and saw what it was he is refusing to return it or accept a refund or exchange. It would be no skin off this persons back to return my item and accept a refund or exchange.. I thought this person would be the last one to be like this. I think it is greed as this person could easily return my item and find something similar, but I can't. They said it was my mistake and basically to bad for you. I would have no problem returning the item under the circumstances. As a fellow forum member what would you do? I thought this was a brotherhood here? I would never do this to another member here. What would you do ? let me off the hook and return my matching vintage item or say screw you it's mine now. This is not a super big ticket item either but it breaks up my matching set. And there are plenty more of these out there just not as vintage.

I agree with you - if you accidentally sent the item and you need it back = not to sell to someone else...this person......in all good conscience....should return the item(s). It's what I would do under the circumstances as you have described them.

I would return the item as well no matter what. I like to think most of us would. Was it something you sent by mistake (wrong item boxed and sent) or did you agree you sell the item then realized your error? If the latter they might feel you want it back to re sell it for more money or something. Honest mistakes happen and I'm very sorry to hear this. Hopefully you both can work it out. The person may have been VERY excited to get said item. Might have been looking a long time for one just like it. Some would also be offended about sellers remorse and just say too bad. It sucks yes but that's the way things go sometimes.

Wow, I cant beleive this story. So you offered to buy back the item for more than what you sold it for even before this person recieved it? If I was the buyer then there would be no question of returning it, heck its obvious that this item is very important to you. I would think anyone who is a honest good hearted person would get it back to you. Sounds like this person is not a good hearted person but more of a selfish jerk. I guess this is a wake up call for all of us. Even though we think of each other as "brothers" its still just a bunch of guys on the internet and we really dont know each other very good at all.

So, sorry to hear the problem, maybey this person will realize what an ass he is and do the right thing, return your item.

Definitely have no intention of reselling it ever. Like I said it is part of a matching set. It is not exactly sellers remorse. I didnt realize at the time it was my matching item. i sold another item too but that was fine. If I did not have the other matching pieces I would just let it go. But this is ridiculous. The item is worth a lot more than what I received for it too. This person doesn't really have to have mine. There are thousands of others out there, I just don't want to break up my set.

That is not cool at all. I would think the person would be understanding especially when it's not the item he/she agreed to buy. You offered to pay the return shipping even. It's not costing them anything what gives?

I see now. I wasn't saying you were going to resell but perhaps the buyer thought you were and for more $$$. Thus the hesitation to work with you on this. Have you tried talking to them on the phone? Sometimes speaking to the person can help smooth things over. Man I feel bad for you. Hope things work out for the best. Yes like Mike suggested maybe you can find a suitable replacement for them? And hope they understand your situation.

OK, wait: how did you "accidentally" ship this to this person? Did you know you were shipping it? Did you agree to sell it to him, and did you both agree to terms? Did money change hands? Did you accept money before you shipped it?

The sale is finalized when the parties come to terms, not when the buyer receives the item. There isn't a "grace period" when, just because he hasn't received the item, you can back out - especially if you agreed to terms and were paid.

I ask you: how is it you sold something that you weren't "intending" to sell? Maybe I'm missing something. I've re-read your post and I still can't figure out what, though.

You say "I sold something", and then realized "I didn't want to sell it". It's too late at that point, unfortunately - a deal that is completed is no longer a deal, it's a transaction. Yes, the buyer could agree to rescind the sale, but it is completely up to him whether he does that or not. Your personal feelings notwithstanding, making an emotional case (whining) to get something back that you consciously packed up and shipped after receiving an agreed price for isn't good form. Let it go. Chalk it up to experience. We all make mistakes. Don't compound yours by whining about it. I'm sorry if that sounds harsh, but life doesn't usually afford "do overs" when something comes up that changes your mind.

Based on my questions in the first paragraph, please provide more detail, because to me this sounds like a simple case of sellers remorse. I'm afraid, regardless of what you think, that the buyer has every right to keep what he bought. I'm sorry: the buyer can't read your mind when it changes, and he isn't required to.
