hey john

for the time being....couldnt you find a cheap price conventional 10 lug snare side hoop. then, saw straight down on the inside of the snare gate to eliminate the bottom of the gate all together? ive seen this design on die cast hoops. you could gently file the edges and round things out a bit. just a thought until you found the correct one that you need. that drums too nice to be disabled right now!

John,

That really looks GREAT! Looks like the threaded grommet worked OK as well.

Good luck on finding the hoop. I've actually got a 10-lug CB700 hoop that has the guards, off of their SS "copy." Let me know if you think you'd like to give that a shot, and I could put up a picture later today.

I assume you and your wife are feeling better!

No power for 24 hours... but I'm back baby.

Phew! Close call, we're among the lucky ones. Others are still waiting for service to be restored, it could take from 7 to 10 days for some people according to the power co.

Bill - just pm a price for the hoop! Post photos if you want to, but your word is good enough for me. Shoot me a number.

Mike - If I get stuck without a snare hoop, that's an excellent idea for the meantime. Thanks.

Shawn - It's Eucalyptus! Gorgeous figure on that stuff isn't it? Has lots of depth to it visually. Like you can see -into- the grain. I'm very happy with it.

Jeff- Yes! lol Not the first time my boat went dead in the water for lack of a single part. Probably won't be the last time either. Occupational hazard. We're working with vintage stuff, old parts (by definition,) are hard to find sometimes.

Thanks all for kind words. I'll post a few shots of the completed drum and I'll give you a review. I'll tell you right now, after tuning the top head and playing it like a tom, it sounds just like a nice Jazzfest! Excellent woody tone! Man, I really want to play this one. I've wanted to build this drum for years. Now that it's real and in front of me, I can't play it! Arghhhhh!

Bill- shoot me a number for the hoop bro...

Good to hear your back with us John. What an ugly storm, feel pretty helpless here. Maybe I can head out to the East and help out after the smoke clears. I did that in Tuscaloosa Alabama last year, donated an entire kitchen and bath cabinets, delivered and installed. It was a life changing experience, I would sure do it again.

Anyway, if that snare sounds anything like my Super Gene Krupa, your gonna love it for sure. I have a few marching drum shells here. Im getting some ideas in my head now!

John -- PM sent.

Jeff & lucky -- Hey, GREAT gesture! Keep it up!

Jeff -- headed for Wisconsin early Friday morning, and back to KS Sunday/Monday as I emailed. I may be giving you a call; just need to figure out my wife's (the "vick" in "billnvick") "itinerary." Monday is my 57th, so if I want to stop by a VDF buddy's place it ought to be my call, huh? ;)
