Burgundy Sparkle/ReWrap Dilemma

Loading...

2 things:

An older post says that the only way to get burgundy sparkle is to order a custom wrap (!!$!!) from Drummaker and wait 3 months.

Anyone have any better ideas or know where I can find enough to do a 13, 16, 22?

I'm about to strip a decent 3 ply red sparkle 70's Ludwig BD (found on the curb in Brooklyn!) to rewrap with the already bare toms. Is this the "ethical" thing to do, or should I sell/trade the BD for something messy, bare or already recovered that could have any number of problems and creates more work for me?

I considered wrapping the toms in red sparkle, and all would be well...maybe that's the thing to do? I just don't like red sparkle so much.

Thanks.

Hold off on stripping the red sparkle. Let's see pics of them. I am sure someone on here would be interested in them. Me for one.

The toms were white and are stripped already. BD is the only original finish.

I feel like if I go and sell these drums, I'm left with no drums and half the bread necessary to buy a set of Ludwigs. Am I wrong?

Ultimately, I'd be selling a project just to find another project.

Here they are.

Suppose I should just make the kit red sparkle then? Or would they be worth as much resale wise if I recover in something like burgundy or silver sparkle?

Thanks guys.

For me, I would sell those shells, put that money with the money I would have spent refurbishing them, and buy something I like.

Free Ludwig bass drum? Free?

Good on you.

Me I'd keep it and fix it up , but I will let Mojo override business decisions.

Congrats

Don't get me wrong. I totally dig these drums and don't want to sell them. I'm really look forward to playing them.

Just looking for someone to tell me it's ok to recover a perfectly good drum...Toilet

fish - If they're going to be 'keepers,' then by all means, wrap them in beautiful Burgundy sparkle and enjoy them. Burgundy sparkle is one of my favorite wraps. Deep, rich looking finish. The drums will look killer. That's a nice 3-ply maple bass drum shell. Will be GREAT sounding bass drum.

Too many great drums to list here!

Right.

Why would you ask us? This is a vintage drum HISTORY site. Hold your breath, click your heels, and ask away.

Right.

No respector of vintage drums would ever do that ... consciously.
