Sonor Kit?

Loading...

I'm also doing a teardrop project(i'm lucky i have nice lugs and complete) that came to me with regular 12-24 inserts on the toms with square headed tuning screws. I am converting them over to the traditional slotted 1/4-20 sonor screws and thought i could just go to the hardware store and pick up a few 1/4-20 nuts. Boy was i wrong. I went to every hardware store in town, and looked all over the internet and no standard 1/4-20 nut fits inside the lug. I measured the hex at 10 mm.

Standard hex size is 7/16", i just happened to find some in a bulk package that should work just fine. These measure at 3/8" which is about .005" smaller than 10mm. BTW i'm in the US so metric countries may not have this problem.

Good luck with the project!

Gary.

I had to take a little away from the nuts by hand with a file to get them to fit in the lugs. It was well worth it though, since the original inserts in quite a few of the lugs were very worn and didn't work very smoothly.

Calfskin, The next time you wanna make me appear crooked referering people to Henk, so you can bash him, do it in person so I can stick you inside my Floortom !!

If you read what I wrote carefully ,you will see that I was cautioning Father Time about dealing with someone who I have dealt with. The fact that you have confidence in him does not mean that you are crooked, nor did I intimate as such. You clearly have not had the experience with him that I have but my experience with him is worth sharing because I don't want anyone else to get taken. Further more, in conversations with at least one other large drum collector, it was shared that he did the same to him but he did make a small but inadequate compensation. I have put about 2,000.00 dollars in his pocket only to have him shortship and ship kits and drums with undisclosed broken parts. Even when I asked him in advance to check all the parts for possible specific damage , he did not do it thoroughly. He has not responded to my latest email, which was to ask for the missing parts(they would cost 16.00E. to ship boo-hoo). He has a habit of moving parts around from kit to kit for display, to make them look better. He has difficulty noticing cracks in lugs and he only knows Sonor drums. ---wouldn't know a Trixon from a Ta Ta. Don't be so quick to blow a fuse. I was protecting another member, not criticising you----and by all means, don't threaten your floor tom!

I`ve no dealings with him so you know alot more than I can say. He`s good info for Sonor Vintage, and pretty normal to talk with. All I know is Sonor and very little bits and pieces about other drums I am learnning here !! I don`t even bother with anything from 80`s on,..That`ll be for my kids !!

It`s all good to give fairness to members, but it would be better to leave my callsing out while doing it unless I`m involved !! I`ve seen no warnnings about him on the site and they`re quick to blow the caps and train over there !!

It`s a drum,.....Hit It !!

OddballI'm not a Sonor guy so I'm assuming the boat mounts are the big mounting brackets. They are shaped like a boat afterall. One has a bigger section than the other where the post goes so the smaller one is for the tom and the big one is for the bass drum? The last one only has the chromed boat shape section. I'm not sure what that one's for.The guy told me he had been buying parts for the shells whenever they came up on ebay. I don't think any hardware came with the shells. He said he thinks he bought them in 2002 with the intention of building it up. He had them stored on a lot inside a panel Van all this time, hence the shrinkage and buckling. The Texas heat and humidity are brutal, so they are in pretty good shape considering. I did notice the lugs were different so which one goes with the shells. The previous owner did mention that some were for the bass drum. Last night I counted the holes and I have an 8 lug FT, a 6 lug Tom and I don't remember on the Bass, but I think it was 10 lugs. I'll take some closup shots, but I can see the tear drop and the boat shape impressed into the wrap.

Fathertime...I got your email do you get the one i sent to you?..Now onto a few more points on the Teardrop drums..The tom and bass drum mounts. The top chrome plate are the same on the mounted toms and bass drums. The inner silver piece of the mounts are the shorter one is for the mounted toms. The long one is for the bass drum. The mount holes are like this on the mounted toms one center hole for the tube cut in a odd shape then two holes on each side of the mount..On the bass drum same three holes that run front to back but there is also 2-{1960 to 65}- or 4-{ 1965 t0 the mide 1970s}- holes that run left to right on the shell these are for mounting bolts and nuts, washers for the metal brace that mounts to the shell. That fit's over the silver part of the mount inside the bass drum. Also a side note on the lugs Sonor used a black piece of rubber insert packing that would keep the hex nut from moving around the inside of the lug....Mikey
