Sonor Kit?

Loading...

I just bought these shells from a guy on CL. Would you fellas tell me about what year? What model? The guy told me they were from the 60s birch shells. they look 6-ply . 9x13, 16x16, 14x22. The wrap has shrunk. Is there anyway to work them back into place? Some of the wrap has peeled off. Maybe I need to remove the wrap carefully and put it back? I also have a bunch of teardrop lugs and mounts thet he gave to me in a bag, but he said they may not all be there. Any info is appreciated. Thanks, James

I believe they are Beech, not Birch. You can find more info at www.sonormuseum.com.

The shells are 6 ply beech wood, with out rings with that and the badge would date your drums from mid 1960's.These old Sonor drums are great sounding drums i have a number of these sets like yours also have the 3 ply shells with rings-{the 3 plys are great for jazz music playing}-The 6 ply shells are great for R&R music. The wrap on these most of the time you will have the same problem that your drums have. With that said i would recover the drums BUT don't re-cut the edges. As far as any missing parts that you may need P/M me i have alot of parts for 60's Sonor drums....Mikey

Thanks for the info Mikey. Yeah, I'm going to need some parts for sure and I don't have a problem rewrapping because I want to keep the set for myself. I'm just concerned with removing the badges and the vent grommet. I still need to do a full inventory of what I have, but I know I need the top and bottom hoops for both Toms and Claws and tension rods for the Bass. I'll pm or email you later. I just brought it home and I need to take a closer look at the amount of lugs I have. . . James

I`m gonna say because of the center mount and sizes, 69 or 70, maybe a Chicago, but you can add to it, so as is, a Chicago minus the snare !!

Anything earlier than 66 will have offset mount, or not those sizes !!

It`s a drum,.....Hit It !!

Now the lash`n,...

...Why you gonna re-wrap, that so far as I can see can be saved ?? Only someone lazy and tired, with no will, would give up all hope and sh*tcan another Teardrop !! The only thing that can save you is, I`ve never seen that wrap on a Teardrop !!
