OT:What is eBay's cut on a $850 sale?

Digicert has nothing to do with the ethics of the individual or the methodology that the sale is built upon. You miss the point.

I understand what you are saying,Digicert does not guarantee the transaction took place and items were not shipped.

Nor will they pay if a deal goes bad meaning the seller commits fraud, takes the money and does not ship.

BUT PAYPAL WILL.

If someone buys a set of drums on my site and the seller commits fraud and does not send the items. And the buyer used paypal.

Paypal will 100 percent refund the buyer their money, including shipping.

The transaction does not have to go thru ebay.

I just got off the phone with paypal 2 minutes ago.

You still miss the point. I'm not speaking of a deal gone bad. I'm speaking to the character of an individual. You see this from a business standpoint. I do not. I see this from the perspective of choosing WHO I wish to do business with as opposed to focusing on the dollar. Some things are more important to people than profit and deals. That is the main issue I've had with this and eBay.

Do you have a pony in this race at all?????????? what is wrong with makeing a profit and a huge one at that, you will not be using this or ebay at all in your own words, I sale on ebay and it is a damn ripoff, I am elated someone is willing to try and offer another forum for which us real sellers can use to sale our gear???Lame, so a more appropriate answer from you would be do you like pie or cake you ask what does this have to do with anything on this post NOTHING!!!

What the heck? It really bugs the snot out of me when I post something relevant and then have to explain a piece of it, which then shifts the focus to some sideline point which makes it appear non-relevant.

Look, I said several times that I wish the guy well. I honestly want this to be a success. I also stated that it would be great if he could incorporate a BuyItNow or For Sale piece along WITH the auctions. That would give mooks like myself the opportunity to be a bit more choosey about who we do business with.

BUT, because I had to freekin' explain the fact that I was speaking of the CHARACTER of the buyer, as opposed to the deal itself, it looks like I'm against this whole thing.

Back off and give me the space I need to make my point. I can't help it if the average dweeb doesn't understand what the hell I type. It happens over and over again and I'm honestly getting sick of having to explain the freekin' obvious to the uneducated blokes. It's tiring.

Probably a bit harsh, but that's where I am at this moment in time.

I think there is some confusion going on here an many levels. So I will step out and state a few obvious things.

1. Fees go up on every site as it grows

2. Every site can and does get hacked, including banks, governments etc.

3. They are not always after CC, but bringing the site down and destroying the data/pages which is far worse and will be much more painful in the long run

4. Your Certificate holder will never have to pay out any money because your site will be hacked other ways

5. If there is a bad deal or something happens they will go after the site owner.

In regards to the site in question, do the basic math and if the site grows out of control and it is costing $200 a month to run then $500 a month or even $1000 a month which is the goal of every site to grow, then how much gear will it need to sell just to cover the expenses?

I think the dreams are and hopes are for things to work, but realistically just look at the numbers.

There are so many technical things involved with web site growth, I hope these things have been studied, or consulted because there is more then meets the eye here folks.

I do not see this as a simple thing and why so many attempts with financial backing have not worked.

WoW, I didn't think this was going to happen, but hey that is what a forum is for. To express ideas.

1st off I appreciate this forum for allowing discussion on the site.

And I do welcome all input. As far as security is concerned,Paypal now guarantees all qualified transactions, there is no risk as long as you pay by paypal. And drums are Qualified.

In regard to finances and operating costs...it is all in check.

Meaning I can let it run from here to eternity.

As for computer glitches that may come up, will have to deal with that when and if they arise.

In short, it is safe, secure and financed and backed up by a web team to handle any issues.

So now it is up to the drumming community...........Lets' Go

Yes, discussion is important.

Remember that the transaction can not be sent as personal money.

It is only money paid for and sent for Goods and Services.

You are not covered if you send money as personal payment.

So watch out for sellers asking to save the fees by paying that way. The buyer has no protection.

Yes, that is true. As long as the buyer pays the normal way, he or she is covered. If you send it as a "gift" you are not.

The same rules that apply to ebay apply anywhere else, there is no difference.
