3M Is water based, We use weldwood solvent based at my shop constantly. I have bought a pallet of it before when I heard it was going up. it went from $55 a 5 gal pail tie $95 in a year. We use 3-4 pails a month. This restoration is important to me and I dont want any future complications. The drum restorer cumunity swears buy this 3m, so by gosh, Im gonna use it and make it work. I'll wrap the small tom 1st and get the hang of it before I do the larger shells and snare.

The waterbased cement I use is neoprene rubber based. I was wondering if they all were. Does it say anything on the can or jar? I would use the 3m also. I would think 99% of builders do nowadays.

Consider it a semi-gloss when dry.....if you look at the wrap under lights closely, you'll be able to tell where spots were missed if applying with a foam brush. If you are spraying, not as much to worry about. However, with that said, I've never sprayed the stuff before....soooo.....

I believe the 3M is latex based.....so if you are allergic to latex, I would wear some protective gloves. I'm not so I never bother with gloves, it washes off so easily when wet anyway.

I know that the new Leedy company uses the 3M Hibond waterbase.......but they use the green tint, I think their theory is its easier to tell if you have complete coverage when its all green. :D Precision only sells the "natural" tint. Both work equally well, its just a color tint difference.

I thought about sprayin it on. We use a binks 2 gallon paint pot at the shop to spray the flamable adhesive on. We also have several quart paint guns.You can buy a quart paint gun for $19.95 at harbour freight tools. It works very well for what we do, but I am thinking that spraying this glue on might not stick to the wrap as good as brushing it on. Adhesive does not stick to slick surfaces as well as it does to absorbant surfaces. Sorta like paint. you always scuff up what your painting before you paint it so the paint will stick better. I may scuff up the back of the wrap with a scotch pad before i apply the glue. I will experiment with spraying it on. yes the green die makes it easier to see where you have sprayed, but in my business the colored adhesive tends to bleed through fabric and foam and my screw up the whole job, so we use natural exclusively.

I ordered my Citrus Mod from Sams today. I better get my a$$ busy polishing!!!

I got all my lugs, inserts, and claws polished today. Ok, I cheated. I took them to work with me and went by lowes on my way to work and bought another polishing wheel and some polish and installed the wheel on one of my grinders at the shop. I polished a few and then turned it over to Al. He's a lead Guitar player and has a band. He went to work for me a few weeks ago. he was more than glad to do it. I edcucated him a little about vintage drums and which lugs are what etc..... He did a great job. it took him about 7 hrs to get them all polished. 7 X $8.50=$59.50 I'm thinkin about taking all my spare lugs to work and let him polish all of them Excited lol. here's before and after pics........

P.S. I know that a polishing wheel is probably cheating alsox-mas3

Got my rims all polished yesterday. A few of them were pretty rusty. Im not sure if I want to replace them or not. I have a pile of rims hanging in the garage. I have a 12-13-16 rims from my 69 silver sparkle kit. Just cant decide if I wanna use them on something else. All I really lack is restoring the wood hoops. This kit came with one original hoop with the 1/2" inlay groove and one hoop without the inlay groove. I got the other hoop along with the snare lugs from my Old Kentucky Drums. That guy is easy to deal with and very reasonable too. I got some tom brackets from Blairndrums and they were already perfect and already polished. I also already got my heads as well. Im going with clear pinstrip heads on top and ebony ones on the reso sides. I like the clear heads because I can see the shell interiors.. The kit came with the ebony heads...

I Got my Citrus od wrap from jammin Sam today. I took all my shells down to the shop. I have had my glue in the house ever since I got it. I didnt want it to freeze out in the garage. It got down to 20 something last night. It was 80 here wednesday. I am going to wrap the shells at my shop. It has a good heater. And I may experiment with sprayin' this water based glue. I left the wrap, shells, and glue in my office. They will be much warmer that way.

Most adhesives I have encountered work better in a warmer inviroment.

Set up quicker etc....... And so do I!!!
