What's the OLDEST drum SET?

Does anyone happen to know what the oldest, existing drum set is? How old would it have to be to THE oldest? I'm not talking about hollow logs thousands of years ago....DOH..... I'm talking about a sit-down set of drums that is played with both hands and feet.

It would almost certainly HAVE to be Ludwig...right?

I'd say Leedy as a complete guess. This is a great question!

Here's the oldest cataloged set I could find in the Vintage Drum Guide sister site...

Note the lack of hi-hat. Those didn't appear until years later!....checking now....Chewie:

The first set I could find with a hi-hat pedal was in the 1938 catalog. However, I know there were more primitive forms of hi-hat pedals that preceded this one...

Ok ,I have to get this scanner fixed. In John Aldridge's book "Guide to Vintage Drums"there is an article written by Chet Falzerano, where he claims that in 1928 Slingerland,Leedy and Ludwig all had Hi hats in their Catalogs. The following year ,Wallberg and Auge had 5 different hi hat models listed and one of then is a double hi hat called the "TwinSock"

Hello guys! I'm doing this research in Brazil. it's hard to believe that nobody knows which drum set is the world's oldest one. In this forum, I found a 1942 kit that, as far as I know, could be one of the oldest setups. Doesn't anybody have any information about it?

In existance, Between Ludwig and Sonor, they pop up, but not very often, It`ll be early twenties !!

The first low-boy and foot clappers show up on Sonor`s 1927 cat. The HH shows up in the 1931 Cat. and was prolly made in 30 !!

The first FT kit shows up in the early 40`s but I forget wich cat !!

It`s a drum,.....Hit It !!

I believe the OP has posted an ambiguous question,"The oldest drum set". Do you mean the oldest as it evolved in the 1890's w/ one man on a bass, snare, cymbal, & crude, improvised method of hitting the bass ? Or, do you mean the first official cataloged set, that probably came 20 years after the original invention ? Are you searching to give credit to a certain brand, or actually trying to date the first drum sets ? There are a number of makers in the 1890's that probably supplied the drums that double-drummers turned into sets.

The question is also ambiguous as to what is considered a set. Does it need toms & a floor tom, a hi-hat ? One post mentions the first set as 1942. This is 50 years later than my conception of the first set.
