Hi JWG. Yes, we do re-work our edges to sharpen them. Much of that is up to you how you accomplish it. Do you have a router/table, and are you proficient? If not, seek out a cabinet maker. Right now on the TAMA website, there is a new edge design they are using on their newest high-end wood snares. This is roughly how I have been shaping my rescue stencils for a while. I use sandpaper where possible, or I also go to my neighbors and we cut them back. It seems to free up most heads. I have found that some heads do still work on the old edges, and I am finding that changing pedals, of all things, has worked on one of my bass drums. All I did to those edges was sand them smooth, treat them and tried a different pedal, and bingo, a 40+ year old head magically sings now.

Thanks,Appreciate the help, They are sounding better already... do you do any work in terms of working the angle on the bearing edge to make it /er? or leave it as is?

Keep us up on the work done. This is really good stuff for most of us 'cause we need that extra bangin' around kit and don't want to blow out a cherished one. Thanks.

Is it yamaha ? yes it is I have the four piece set ..The color was a blue oyster kind of a knock off of the ringo star ludwig set he played in the 1960's

My Dad bought me a set like that in 1969 70 was in the music shop window for a while 200.00 it was between that set and a remo .. went with the Yamaha and still have it .. I have a 1970 slingerland set wood and tring to decide which set to sell ?

The yamaha set you posted could be 1970's the mounted tom holder is better since the one the had the metal was not strong and broke ...the set is great nice sound the hardware well neds tender loving care or change it
