can't wait to see the finished product. should be nice. on many of the round knob mufflers, the end of the threads were altered in some way so that the muffler knob and threaded rod wouldn't come right off. they can sure be a pain to remove. in fact, ive begun to work around them on restorations lately.

Dang it! Thank you Mike for letting me know. At least this was already broken! It is still functional but I have a replacement. What is up with no snare beds on these? My buddy has one with the same deal.

if you put the shell on a flat surface and shine a flash light from the inside towards the bed area, you should see light in a very subtle manner. they are very,very shallow and gradual.

Curtis - A little bead of Crazy Glue and a small clamp will take care of the seam lift. Lightly sand the interior (120 grit) and repaint with Benjamin Moore flat ultra white. The Novus will take care of the wrap. It'll look great when you're done. Pix when it's ready!

This shell is cleaning up nicely. I'm torn on painting the inside. I am for sure flipping this drum so I'm thinking in terms of resale. What are your opinions?

If it's a 'keeper' paint the interior... if it's for resale, leave it in original condition as is.

I have used an appropriate size die (I forget what size it is DOH) to clean / recut the threads so the rod comes out easily. Then after I finish and put the rod back in I either put a drop of epoxy on the end or mess up the threads with side-cutter pliers so it won't accidentally come out.

Finally! Taking some time to get these projects worked on today. The re-ring on this snare was separating a bit. It was really hard still though so I didn't want to glue and clamp for fear of actually damaging the re-ring. I just used some Elmers wood filler and a toothpick to fill in the gap. Turned out well.

This snare has some type of residue on the edges. It seems like wax but its seems to hard and is not coming off. Its mainly just on the wrap at the edges so Im not to concerned with it because you can't see it when the heads and rims are on. Does anyone have any ideas of something safe to try and remove this?

I got some glue on the end of the wrap where it was lifting a bit too. Ill let that sit 24 hrs then tomorrow I will start putting this old gal back together.
