Where is introduction part of forum?

Loading...

Hi all.... FINALLY found the intro section I guess. I use a different name on another forum though.... Long time drummer/collector. Mostly interested in snares as they're easier to store than an entire kit!!! Love collecting Gretsch especially. Think I had 20 at last count.... As I mentioned already in another thread I see familiar faces and look forward to participating here.

Well I guess I'm not the only person that couldn't find the intro forum DOH. I'm Mike live in New Jersey. Been playing off and on for about 30 yrs...I'm still strictly an amateur/hobbyist. Just got into vintage drums about 18 months ago. Currently own a Slingerland ophan kit late 60's/early 70's all rootbeer sparkle 20/12/13/14/16. I've used this site as a reference and decided to join.

Happy to join the form finally, as I've been learning load from this group for the past year or so. I've been a performing drummer for the past 20 years, mostly percussion and mostly classic & psychedelic rock. I've also taught hand drumming to countless kids and led many drum circles over the years. I was asked by at couple of dad's at my daughters' school to be the drummer in their band...so now I'm playing the drum kid. It's a great instrument!!!

Since purchasing a really inexpensive PDP kit through craigslist, I got some Zildjian hi hats from the 70's and newer zildjian crash(2) & ride. I've learned a ton about the spectacular sound of good vintage drums. As an opening act for some local Claremont bands, I've had the good fortune to play a '58 Gretsch set with a '60ish wood snare, a '70 Ludwig set with a superphonic snare and a '83 Gretsch kit. Based on my experiences and what I learned reading posts from this forum, I purchased a wood, 6 1/2 x 14, '58 ludwig snare. It's got the warm, rich and dirty sound I was looking for.

I was given this 27" x 14", Ludwig & Ludwig, concert bass drum about a decade ago and want to turn it into another kit. Got one hoop repaired by a local drum tech friend of mine and am looking for an old field drum to use as a tom. I think a 15" or better will sound best, but not sure if I should keep with ludwig as there are some really neat older marching snare and tom drums that would look good an may sound great with the bass.

Anyway, I'm rambling so I'll sign off, but I'll be poking around for sure!

Hello,

just signed on here, was with drumsmith for a couple years, recently joined drumforum, and now found VDF. Probably not as knowledgeable as you all, but have really been enjoying my restored 3ply ludwigs (players) Also have some Slingerlands (a jet kit I believe) that should come back to life.

Just thought I'd take a moment to inrtoduce myself, my name is Rob and Im about as new as I can get to drumming, Its something I have always wanted to do but never could for so many curveballs and things that real life throw at us.

Well my brother in -law whom has been a drummer for aprox 40 years told me your not to old to learn how to play, the nest thing I know he calls me up and tells me to come over to his house that he had a birthday present for me, And to my surprise, He had purchased for me an older set of Ludwig Rockers with all the bells and whistles, " and he replyed Happy Birthday Bro! now you have no excuse not to learn how to play! and thus here I am the noob to the BOOM ... Hello, gents.

My name is Stu and I have been playing drums for about five years. I started on a friends PDP, then I heard a buddy's old Slingerland drums. They aren't nice to look at, but they sure sound good. This led to me getting a kit in a yard sale, and as luck had it, they were Slingerlands! I am still looking for cymbals, something better than the Sabian B8s that came with this kit.

I will be restoring these to their former glory, and I figured this would be the place to find out everything I need to know. Just be gentle on me, I am not very knowledgeable on things like this.
