Well, this is another first for me! I've never seen these drums before. Style-wise, the drums appear to be from the later 60's. They are obviously not American made, so I will now bow out of this discussion gracefully...

carry on!

i think this is probably a 50's kit too. there is a very nice complete Deri kit from the 40's on ebay.de right now and it is pretty distant from your drums in design . my understanding was that Deri sort of morphed into Rimmel(Rimmel was(is?) a music distributor and shop and had Deri make drums for them, subsequently becoming the company itself. this has the Rimmel style T-rods and early Rimmel lugs too. that wrap was also used by Tromsa and Trowa in the 50's. i presume , that the heads are calf-----if plastique become required, i think Stabil , in Germany may possibly have them or be able to make them, as can Remo( about 100.00). these are really nice. there are matching drums around occasionally------i have seen some snares, for sure. badges are really rare. could you shoot a pic or two of the interiors? i'm kind of intrigued at the connection between the various German drum companies----even the East German ones-----there was a certain amount of sharing----not copying; sharing. shells, some hardware, other basic components. i have seen some Tromsa stuff on Deri drums(or vica versa).

thanks calfskin,

will send pictures of interior soon.

intrigued about the 1940's one for sale on ebay.de but unable to see it-what did you type in or do you have the id number please?

thanks again for the history...this is what ive got so far...

Karl Rimmel opened his shop which 1935 moves in the Landhaus am the Residenzplatz in Kempten in Diepolz in 1935.

With the instrument maker Max Deibel, Rimmel begins with the production of drums. The company is named after its founders Deibel and Rimmel "DERI".

1949 Rimmel submit an a patent for a drum boiler made of Beech plywood with the German Patent Office. This is due to a special coating fireproof.

1954 The retail moves to Kemptener Lingstraße.

A further patent for a pedal with spring steel Announces 1955 Rimmel.

1957 By a Lottogewinn Rimmel can buy a carpentry in Kempten. Here he establishes a locksmith's shop, a foundry and even an electroplating shop.

In addition to the dixi-and case drum, includes production at the end of the 1950s already Bongos, timbales, conga-style drums, timpani, field drums, fanfare, Kleinpercussion stick sticks and Bumbässe.

the only known Rimmel sold 1960s after the death of Max Deibel.

A patent for the covering of plastic fur Announces 1961 Rimmel in Germany, France, England and Switzerland. The company now primarily focused on the metal refining, soon becomes a major supplier of metal parts. All drum manufacturers in Germany are supplied at that time by the company Rimmel

thanks again so far.

I think the reinforcing plate , came from a plywood supply set aside for this purpose and therefore has writing on it designating that---probably for the benefit of employees. On the other side of the reinforcing plate is the remains of some other writing, which was removed when the sheet was cut. It provided further description. Trommel means drum----perhaps the other word was the pet description for this particular trommel. A standard bass drum would be a gros trommel.

really good pictures and it helps clarify some similarities between the German companies in the 50's. this shell is very similar to a Tromsa and Lefima but very different to Trixon and Sonor. Tacton and Trowa had there own style and I will post some pictures of those on another post fairly soon.

It is hard to tell but are the toms some sort of composite material? I have what I think are Deri Bongos and they have this dark interior colour(painted hammered silver). The material is sort of like masonite or some sort of compressed fibreboard-----very heavy and durable. Trixon used this as well, for certain applications(mainly the bearing edges on the chrome on brass concert snare)not shells to my knowledge.

The two mufflers look to be different in design. The one in the foreground, appears very similar to what Trowa used(best muffler ever made---it is a snap on and an adjustable in one unit with a very thin dense pad)----like to see a picture of that in detail.

super good news for you , is that I think I have a Key for your kit. It isn't marked as such but in the tradition of the key handle being the same shape as the T-rod handles it matches the Rimmel /Deri shape.
