What strainer for this Slingerland shell

Fungus, I measured center to center on the holes so they may not be the most accurate measurements. I'll have to take a look again with a bit more light so I can read my scale a bit more accurately .

That would explain why no holes for the gate.

Here is a link to another possiblity, but I think these came along much later.

This is uncharted territory for me.

Sorry to be a pest but this has piqued my curiosity. I think the picture you show is a Dual strainer. I believe that if that is the case then it would have a somewhat equivalent set of holes (3 holes) on the other side. Check the catalog pages for Slingy snares on the Vintage drum guide starting in 1966. While you're at it check out the equivalent Leedy pages. My best guess at this point is that you have a Slingerland snare with a Leedy strainer. Look at the Leedy 1965 Shelly Manne snare.

I know that for some period of time Slingerland owned Leedy, so it could be feasible that a Leedy strainer was put on a Slingy snare if they ran out of whatever they were using at the time.

If anyone is more informed on this than I am please chime in.

The good news is that repop versions of the Leedy strainer are available and not very expensive.

Good luck.

Sorry Denzos, I want to hang onto the strainer I have.

Still haven't solved this mystery of the missing strainer, I sure wish I could walk into a store and try on a couple different strainers.

I measured the holes drilled in the butt plate side and the spacing from center to center is 1.75" the spacing on the snare side top holes are 1.75' and the distance to the single bottom hole is close to 2 5/8" or 2.625"

I managed to simichrome the shell and it turned out really nice. I'll post pics soon.

Sure this will fit his measurements are a bit off and I think his price is a bit high, and I read on this forum they are kinda cheap and flimsyfeebay link

could be this?

Ok, I'm a Ludwig guy, but.....I have dabbled in Slingerland and Leedy in the past. Someone else hit the nail on the head a little earlier. You've got a Slingerland shell that was drilled for the Leedy Broadway strainer and butt. Slingerland used the Leedy butt on the sound king anyway, so that would be correct for this drum. They probably ran out of Zoomatic strainers or maybe someone custom ordered one with the Leedy strainer, either way, it would be original to THIS drum and so would be correct. Originals come up from time to time, but the new reproductions are available more readily and should be a suitable replacement and they are reasonably priced. As far as the repros feeling "cheap & flimsy"....well, the originals weren't much better.

If you look at the pic. on post 9 of the holes,...you can see they are exactly on center with the top and bottom of the lugs next to it. You can also see that there is a footprint left behind, and it has long thin mount ears on the strainer, like a airplane wing shape and not a rounded over end. So a drum your size will have it mounted there, and a drum higher wil have it seemingly lower. Is it possible the throw is earlier than 60`s ?

It`s a drum,.....Hit It !!
