Does it have two holes for snare gates as well as the three for the strainer?

OH MAN!...you got a great price on that shell! It's going to cost some coin to get her back up, but you'll have a hell of a drum! You don't see a lot of Radio King COB's out there...very cool drums! I actually have the parts to complete this but saving them for just what you got...hate that I missed seeing this one. If you decide you don't want to put the money in to complete it, let me know...maybe we can do a trade.

I recently purchased a 58 RK snare but it has the later strainer and gates that are correct for your drum.

That is, I've got a strainer with non-detachable arm and 2 hole gates, but I need a strainer with detachable arm and 6 hole gates.

I'd trade straight across for the correct parts if you can find the ones that are correct for my drum.

Of course I could drill the extra holes and modify the arm to accept a detachable extension, but was hoping that I might be able to find someone with the opposite problem as mine.

Didn't really consider it being a radioking I just wanted a 10 lug 5x14 COB snare, and had parts from a 70's COS steel snare. I was debating buying one of those NOS shells but this stayed within the budget and came with lugs and a bottom hoop

It only has three holes for the strainer and not the snare gate. I have a WFL on an older 7 x 15 ludwig concert snare that I can't get to sound good I'll pull apart to see if the holes are the same. Fingers crossed I want to play this thing now.

In the future I'll need to find a COB top hoop I think my steel one will do to get it behind my kit.

You might have a special order SK or something along the lines of a SK that I just bought that has a rapid strainer...no extra holes, 3 line brass shell. Had a guy tell me that he had talked to a gentleman that had been a Slingy employee, who told him that the SK's were so popular that they often ran out of Zoomies & just replaced them with what ever was laying around. You might just have one of those drums, or a special order. What ever it is, it's going to be special!

I had some time to tear into it this morning and wanted to share what I found.

Heres a picture of the hole pattern for the strainer. My WFL and RK 3 hole strainers are too short between the top and bottom holes.

The hole measurements are 1 3/8" between the top pair and 2 3/4" from the top pair to the single bottom hole. (8/4/12 edit, I got those measurements wrong, actual are 1.75" center to center on the top pair of holes and 2 5/8" from the top holes to the single center hole on the bottom)

The butt plate is 1 3/4" between the holes (edit: Butt Plate is also 1.75")

Something interesting about the lugs. The ones off this drum were installed with two washers, one like the washers on the inside of wood drums and one with the machine screw that bolts the lug to the shell.

The top lug in the pic is one off my 70's COS snare I stripped. the lower is the one off this COB shell. The two lugs are different too. the COB one has casting marks on both ends and feels lighter. The newer lug off my COS shell doesn't have the cast marks feels a tad heavier and is a little thicker in the waist/middle of the lug. It's hard to tell in the pic because of the glare.

I also searched through the gallery for similar shells and found this one. Is this the correct strainer?

I measured my 3-point & it is no where close to those measurements, the only thing I can think of that Slingy made with those dimensions is the dual throw for the Super Sound King. I'll have to get mine out, but just looking at it, the spacing looks correct...for one side anyway. Maybe this was a special order & used a modified dual throw. Very strange, but we are talking about Slingerland.

OK, I just measured my super SK throw side & it's 1.375" by 2.25". I think if you remeasure the top to bottom spacing on those holes, you'll find that it's 2.25". That means it was drilled for the Dual Strainer on the throw side. I can tell it's 2.25" spacing on your drum because it's roughly the same height as the SK lugs & they are no where close to being 2.75". My guess is that this is a rogue factory Slingy or a Special Order that used a modified Dual Strainer...it could also be a prototype. Hope this helps & keep posting pics!
