What sticks do you use?

I looked, although very briefly, to see if there was a previous thead on stick use; didn't see one - I'm also not wearing my cheaters. I realize different types of playing (and music) may dictate what type of stick a player might use, but after reading though the "shoes" thread, I started to wonder about other variable aspects about our playing.

I have used wood-tipped, Vic Firth 5A's for decades. I have played moslty rock, blues and some country with them and still use them to this day. Do any of you guys do something similar and do you working guys use a specific tool for a particular job? Just curious and thought it might make for good conversation.

I used Vic Firth B2 Boleros for everything. Never found another stick that I am as comfortable with. Thicker than 5Bs but still light weight.

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

Vic Firth SD4's. They should feel short to me at 15 7/8" but for some reason they don't. Love the Maple.

Hot rods or lightning rods for soft work, 5A wood tip for cocktail kit and ballads, 5B nylon tip for everything else. I will play Zildjian or Firth; sometimes Pro Mark or Vater if they're on sale. I'll even play the "20 pair for $5 bag o' sticks" you can buy at Banjo Center- sometimes they're REALLY bad, sometimes they're REALLY good. And back in the '80s when I wore lipstick and spandex looked good on me, I never touched nylon tips (as they always popped off) and I played miniature baseball bats half or the time!!!! Yes- that was HELL on my cymbals...

Call me a stick junkie. But in the last band I was in (which was a neo punk/metal band), I would chew up two pair per show (always on the shoulder), and this was besides the throw-aways (usually the afore-mentioned "bag o' sticks" sticks) I throw to the hotties in the audience. Now that my gig is a little lower-energy with fewer rim shots, thrown sticks and less high-energy cymbal work, I don't chew up many pairs of sticks. But when we start gigging, I will have to buy a bag o' sticks to throw to cute girls...

Yeah- I'm THAT guy!!!
