What is this Slingerland Floor Tom?

Loading...

Saw this Slingerland floor tom on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=171076147255&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:US:1123 and my first thought was that it was a rewrap. At my request, the seller has posted pictures of the interior and grommet. Hmmm... well, it does look original. Still, to my knowledge, Slingerland never offered this finish, which appears to be Moonglow Satin Flame from Gretsch. Also, I certainly can't recall Slingerland ever putting the tone control directly above the air vent/badge. Any thoughts on this drum? Thanks for any input from our other Slingerland experts out there!

Mark!! Long time no see or talk!

Saw this finish on bottom right that looks kind of similar, Slingerland calls it Green Satin Flame Pearl

Maybe because of the unique size, the badge and muffle line up?

Its better to have people think you're an idiot, than to open your mouth and prove them wrong, unless you doubt yourself then speak away....

Gary! Yes, it's been a while! Time to get together and share drum talk!

I just don't feel it's Green Satin Flame. Really looks like a custom order and the wrap was obtained from another source, such as Gretsch? Sure looks a bit like Moonglow Satin Flame. Camco had Charcoal Moire. Sure would like to solve this mystery!

Mystery solved! I have literally thousands of drum pictures I've saved over the years from eBay. Found this kit that sold 10-6-09... for $760. The seller says it is Charcoal Satin Flame, was never cataloged and not that many kits/drums in this color were produced. Very cool color!

I'm going to have to disagree with you on this. I've seen plenty of Slingerland's Blue Satin Flame and this floor tom looks nothing like it. I'm sticking with "charcoal". The only way to know for sure is to see the drum up close and personal. Still, I just don't see this as blue. Maybe others will chime in.

I'm attaching a picture of a 1968 Cusatis 4N kit I had. Finished in Blue Satin Flame. I just don't see this as looking like the eBay floor tom.

Well we must just agree to disagree.. I did own one from new for around 4 years.. They look different in any lighting variation and the ebay tom looks worn and grotty.. I see very little blue in the grey kit pictured.. But I am very convinced that the ebay tom is as mine was The Blue Satin Flame..

Cheers

I too think it's that uncataloged "charcoal" satin flame of which I've seen a few.

Maybe it's yet another uncataloged finish. The pattern of the satin flame looks like the original and not anything that was available for re-wraps.

In the Slingerland catalog the blue satin flame shown on the Joe Cusatis set is a much darker blue than all the blue satin flame drums I've seen. Anyone ever see a dark blue like this?
