Awesome score ! They're worth at least $500, even in that condition. If it were me, i'd strip the original paint, lightly sand and fill any wood nicks, and repaint in original black and then lacquer to preserve the finish..Nickel hardware looks great on black..Good luck with the restoration and show us pics after you're done ! cheers !

Those black lacquer kits always look killer. I'm with human71, restore the original black lacquer finish. It looks so rich with the nickel hardware. I'd take the shells to a body shop where they paint autos and have them do a pro paint job from prep to sealer coats. Worth tracking down an orphan 14"x14" floor tom to complete the kit!

Great find, great project kit. I love me some Clubbies. :D

I'm not getting how going to the time and trouble to strip the paint that appears to be holding just fine and spending the time/money to have repainted is going to add enough value to make it worth the expense/effort.

Are Ludwig Club Dates worth more than the above costs when they can only be advertised as repainted originals???

Sorry, I only have Slingerlands would be a resounding no on those items.

Swing in the vintage car market is where too shinny to be original now frowned upon (about time).

Only original once and they are your drums. Whatever you choose enjoy playing those classics!

The finish was available in 66/67+ it`s called Jet Black Lacquer.......Piano finish is what most call it, it`s not paint.

That would be these I think Larry. Difference is they came to me stripped of wrap and with black paint on the mahogany outer ply. The "birthmark" is where I filled a gouge with mahogany wood dust and glue. Kit is currently in the hands of GAR being returned to how they look in pic below...or maybe he'll wrap em!
