What about these drums

We can turn this into a crying party...

....and I could tell you about the cloud-badge Radio King kit on eBay about 3 years ago...WITH the single ply-snare...some guy was auctioning. He hadn't labeled the auction right...so it wasn't coming up on "Slingerland" searches...I think I found it on a "vintage drumset" search. It went for $500.00...including all the hardware. I made a mistake on the closing time, missed it by 2 mins......Violin

Y'know the amazing thing about once-in-a-lifetime deals like these...???

They are NOT once-in-a-lifetime.

Be diligent. Be vigilant. Keep an eye.....it'll come to you. ;)

Also, be knowledgeable....Luddies and Gretsches and Rogers....those are the hottest old kits. But what about Slingys or Premiers or Sonors ? Those tend to go a bit cheaper; attract a bit less of a crowd. Man, those old '60's Premiers are sweet old drums...thin shelled birch with awesome rings/edges...just sweeeeet. There were a lotta makers around back then who did great quality stuff....

Hey, neighbor ! That's the Bay Area C'list, ain't it ?

The first kit looks cool...unfortunately it has had some after-market alterations such as the bss mounts and tom mounts and spurs....so that drops it's value a bit since those mounts look like they required big holes into the shells.

Maybe $500.

The snare..that guy was asking 3 bill$, wasn't he ?

If it's a 3-ply, which it likely is (as opposed to a 1-ply maple) it's worth no more than $150 tops.

The concert-tom kit'd be the most interesting...if not for the shallow low-tom. Slingy always equipped a kit with a bona-fide FT, so that low tom is either a later addition in place of a missing FT, or it's an original second low tom and the original FT is gone. Which wouldn't be a big deal except it looks to be only 10" deep...so you can't really put legs on 'er....If it's 12" deep, you can leg 'er and have a nice kit.

Early-mid '70's kit, probably. Chrome snare. I like those sorta kits...I have turned a few into double-headed kits since the bottomedges were already factory-cut...it was an easy alteration to do.

Maybe $500 because of the snare (it's probably just a COS, not a COB, but nevertheless). Not including cymbals.

Also, don't forget the poor bastard in the south bay who has been trying to unload his '70's chrome-wrap over wood kit since about....well...this past summer. Poor guy...I think he's down to under $400 now...but that chrome over wood stuff....damn, it's so friggin' ugly...and NOBODY wants to deal with stripping off that chrome to do a rewrap (trust me...heating and peeling and bending off glued-on chrome wrap....you do it once...and never again).

DB, if you are looking for a Slingy Kit, I am in the midst of renovating one But it's a rewrap job...12 rack, 14 floor and have not decided on Bass size yet...

I remember the time that started it all:

I was looking for a small kit for a friend's studio. I saw a black cortex JAZZETTE (all matched B/O badges) in MINT condition (like it was never touched) -complete with a 3 X 13 "bebop" snare drum. I did a max bid of $1,100.00. It went for $1,300.00. I knew the guy who bought it. I tried to get him to sell it to me. I told him I would double his money. no sale. That's when I really started to study and collect certain specific drums and sets. There's actually a picture of that black cortex kit on the forum somewhere if you search "Jazzette". Since then, I have had lots of stories to tell!ViolinViolinChewie:Party

I'm not DB, but I am curious about your slingerland drums. I'm currently wrapping a Buddy Rich kit (gold sparkle) and am looking for a progressive jazz size kit. What can you tell me about it. PM me if you would. Thanks.
