How do the clamp on spurs hold that kick? Is that hoop mounted anchor needed as well?

They do a good job, I put the anchor on for a little added support and lift.

We all need a little added lift and support haha. I find that you don't have to hit the larger bass drums as hard so slightly less stout spurs work fine.

GoneDrumming: I posted pics of my RK snare on a new thread. Now just waiting for Ben's gf to show up at one of my gigs :)
