Hey, long time no write. Well, I found these locally. They're asking $400. All I have is two pictures right now. Everything in the pictures is included. Any info would help, along with opinions on value. Thanks again guys.

They're nice, not $400.00 nice IMHO, but look like they will clean up good.

Offer $275.00 and haggle. Cracked cymbals are automatic knockdown for me.

I wouldn't go more than $325.00, Vintage or not market is down...

If the set was a 60's vintage set 400.00 would be a good price. But by the badge and lugs i see the set is from the late 70's up to 1983. Wrong snare drum it looks like a M.I.J. no name snare from the 80's.I would offer 250.00 and go up to 275.00 for the set...Mikey

I'm not so sure Mikey. I'm thinking late 60s/early 70s like this one http://www.coopersvintagedrums.com/yamripple.htm Same finish and same lugs.

It's a nice kit and the asking price isn't crazy IMO.

I'm with Andrew on that one. Though my guess would be post 60s. Would the 60s models not have had a conselette rails? Or did that only apply to the single tom kits d20 d18 etc?

Fayray, I would have to agree. The drums I am looking at certainly look like the drums in your link. I'm no expert though, that's why I come here. I have my Silvertones that I gig with regularly, and love, but I have been interested in vintage Yamaha kits. There's just something about them. I really like this style lug, and the wrap. I always thought the yammies commanded a bit more in the mij market. No matching snare, cymbals are a bust, and hardware doesn't look to be original. Could the metal snare be another option? I was definitely planning to lowball. Actually, 250 is where I was going to start. Opinions here, and of course looking at the drums will help me decide how high to go. Hopefully I don't absolutely fall in love with them when I get there.

Thanks so far

there was a chrome snare option but i'm not sure the one with this kit is a Yamaha, or at least a Yamaha from this period.

They are very well made drums and definitely a big step up on most of the other MIJ brands from this time. It will depend on condition and whether there are missing parts or extra holes or damaged wrap but I reckon anything under $400 would be good buying. It's their higher level kit too. I have the entry level model and it's really well made and sounds very good so this model will probably be even better.

There seems to be quite a few different BD tom mounts on these kits but I too would lean towards it being early 70s.

The snare looks like one of the gazillion Taiwanese stencil snares. I hate those throw-offs, they're sticky and generally just badly made. The snare really adds no value to the set. You can make those snares sound sorta decent, if you're willing to put in the time, a lot of patience and, of course, new heads.

I'm with everyone else. For the whole shebang, I'd start at $225 and maybe go to $300, tops, only if I was in love with the wrap.

Acutally, those might look pretty handsome set up as a 13/16/22 with a Supra...

i would pay that here in australia, they just don't turn up that often, i would take a punt on them cleaning up and playing well, i think i might have the steel snare for this kit.

Thanks for the help so far. I actually won't have chance to see them until Wednesday morning. Just a scheduling issue. Easter and all. The sellers have been nice enough to let me know if they get any other offers between now and then.

Nice to know about the snare. I already have a typical Taiwanese snare, and actually like it, but I don't need another. It would have been nice to have a snare that came with the kit originally. Hopefully there's no major defects, and hopefully they were stored in a dry place.:)

By the way......Happy Easter everyone. Hope you and yours are all happy and healthy. Mike
