Vintage W&A Kit Restoration

Hang tough, in a couple of days I hope to post much better shots. The 16" floor tom needs to be moved so you can see it and I'm still learning about light placement. When the backdrop arrives I'll post another set of photos from different angles.

I'm getting a W&A sticker from Jeremy as soon as I can get out to the Post Office. We're snowed in at the moment. I left a little room at the top of the BD head for the logo. It'll be the 'finishing touch.'

It's huge fun to play! :D

Whoa!!! There she is!! You knocked it out of the park! Tremendous job!! That tom configuration was way ahead of its time! ... And the bass drum head... What a nice touch! I'll get the bass drum decal as soon as they come in!

Jeremy - The 'nice touch' will be when I add the W&A logo sticker to the top of the BD head. I wanted the kit to have a 'personal touch and look' so I free-handed the logo and filigree on to the head with paint and permanent markers. Guys used to decorate their own bd heads back in the day, a kind of 'Folk Art.' I could have generated the graphics on my computer and made everything look 'perfect,' but there is something about hand drawn art that has a personal feel to it. Big Blue will always be... Big Blue from here on out. :D

I'm snowed in! The second I can get to the P.O. the $ for the logo will be on the way to you. I'll get some better shots when the backdrop arrives. Hopefully there will be two or three good ones for you to choose from for the website.

Looking forward...

John

And here's to -you- bud! Without you this may not have happened at all. :D

You gotta play this thing, Glenn. It's just pure -FUN.- I can't stay out of the basement. I've been playing them on and off all day. It's a blast having this many drums to choose from. Stuff that I play on my 1-up, 1-down set up suddenly sounds outrageous when I incorporate the 'extra' drums. The bass drum... like a big heart beat. Not as boomy as I thought a 28" was going to be, it just sounds BIG. You know it's there.

I'm having a well-earned ball with these drums.

I got a l-o-n-g beater with the kit! I put it on a 1st generation Rogers Swivo pedal I have that operates smooth as silk. The beater strikes just below center on the head. Playing a 28" is requiring me to make a little adjustment in my pedal technique (I feel like I'm pushing a bit harder to get a good solid thump out of it,) but other than that, It plays great and I'm really loving it. I incorporate a lot of bass drum into most everything I play. I've never played a 28" before and it's a cool experience to have the bass drum stand out like this one does. Everything I play sounds different on this kit, bigger, fuller.

John,

Without a doubt the best looking drums I have ever seen. Like a classic era Packard, Peerless, Rolls Royce. Leading design and quality in every detail. The passion and dedication on your restoration jumps from every update. Over the top by taking the hard road and hand painting the graphics.

Thank you sir!
