Vintage W&A Kit Restoration

The tacking has begun! Lots of tacks to set, over 100 on this drum alone. I want to get the head done so I can move on to the hoop and hardware to complete it.

More shortly...

John

Very tedious work but it's coming out great! You'll be tacking heads in your sleep. :) BTW good call on the T-rod repairs. Even a good welder/fab guy. They should be able to braze them with a good silver solder if it's a brass to steel repair. Which I think it is? Look forward to seeing how they come out. Keep up the good work.

Glenn.

Not a guru just havin fun with some old dusty drums.

Ok, the 16" is tacked!

The lugs, rods and claws are in the tumbler and I'll be working on the wood hoop today. I should have this one done shortly and then I'll move on to the 13".

Stay tuned... we're getting there!

John

Yes it has... If I ever have a opportunity to do something similar, then I'd look no further than this thread for guidance............. Love the way you launched your "at tack" with this project..

Cheers

Thanks, Jeff. I wanted the thread to read like a photo tutorial. Like reading a well illustrated article in a magazine. PhotoShop allows me to add captions to the pictures and I think it brings the thread to life to include lots of photos of the process along with a good step by step demonstration of the methods involved. The thing I enjoy most about restoration threads is seeing the transformation process take place in real-time right before my eyes. I'm trying to document the job as best I can. I love restoring old drums and this kit is my 'Michael-Angelo Masterpiece.' I'm having a ton of fun doing it and I hope the guys that have been following along are enjoying it too. Thanks again for the encouragement.

The hoop is stripped and ready for poly. The parts are in the tumbler getting their shine back. Finished product soon...

LJ - Tacky! Love it! LOL :D

This thread is just amazing . I get excited about restoring and saving drums even more every time I read this thread . Nice work .

Warning ... Avoid member statuscymbal here, vintage_collector on DFO , and americanpatriot10 on eBay. Email me for his name. All are the same shady guy who has burned me and a list of other members on both boards . He is also selling on Facebook too ..

My work here is done! Close the thread, Tommy, mission accomplished! LOL

If I got you, that means I got a few others too. That's a benefit I hadn't even considered. If this project motivates even a few guys to look for and save some of these beautiful old musical instruments, then the project will have accomplished a much higher goal than even I had in mind initially. I did good - by carom shot! :p

I got excited for a sec...I thought you meant the work on the kit was done and we were gonna see the whole kit together in all of its beautiful big blue glory! By the way...you've always inspired me, John...your talent, information, restoration skills, persona and generosity are all top notch! Well done, Amigo.
