Stunning! You did a very nice e job. My fingers hurt just thinking about having to hold all of those rods to the buffer.

This is gonna be one beautiful drum set.

LOL - I love the 'Internet high five'! Now there's a big grimey hand-print on my monitor screen! :p

The 'dating mystery' with this kit has been -partially- solved! Underneath the claws on the 14" tom (on the hoop) is a rectangular, metal Walburg & Auge badge with the black background and raised gold logo! It's the -third- badge on this page:

I'll post up a photo shortly. The badge dates the kit from the 30's all the way through to the mid-50's! So even though we know approximately which decades the kit was manufactured, we're no closer to finding out when/what years, this style kit was offered to their customers. Badge says 30's/40's sometime. I don't see them manufacturing a kit like this in the 50's. Who would have bought an 'old-timey' looking kit like this, in these sizes in the 50's? My money is still on early 30's! I figure a kit like this would have been the 'cat's pajama's' between 1930 and 1935. After that, drummers are playing more modern looking kits in big bands. Just my thinking on it. Photos of the badge shortly...

66/67 downbeat with canister
Super 400 small round knob
1967 super classic obp





once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

Gary- You would have to ask somebody like Steve Maxwell a question like that. I have no idea. W&A kits from the 50's bring about as much as Slingerland kits price-wise, even though the W&A's are a hundred times rarer in terms of number of kits that were made and that exist today. My 'guess' would be over 2G's on the low side. High side?????

Here are a couple of shots of the W&A badge that I found hidden under a claw on the rim of the 14" tom.

i'm loving this thread. that bass drum looks spectacular. your work is always super nice. but this is a whole different level in my opinion. well done john.well done!
