Here is a fabulous sounding snare drum from the 1930's. It is 14x6.5" two sets of original wires original tone control. Also has original hoops even drum heads. The shell is 3 ply with re rings. Im not sure of the wood used in them days. The pics show the drum stripped going through various parts of renovation. Some parts are not shown as they are being cleaned. You normally find these with no wires or mechanisms. Also the wood shell is very hard to find these days. The COB are still popping up but are normally missing parts....Thanks.....sean

Thanks Oddball......The snare before i took it apart sounded amazingly good. The inside of shell was dried out so i lightly oiled the interior with olive oil. The outside just a soapy wash to get dirt off then finally a polish with bees wax. Another trick i learnt was to soak metal nuts bolts etc in white vinegar even tension rods. Done that for two days wow they look 70% better already. The hoops will just be quick soapy wash and usual metal polish nothing abrasive. When finished ill do a sound file. With the drum apart from the K Zildjians mentioned i also got a 22" Ajax which sounds awesome plus a 20" Zyn with rivets again a great sound.
Hi Sean,
That is awesome. Ever get them apart and then can't figure how to get them back together? I kid.
How much vinegar and for how long do you soak?

a few snares ...
One note on white vinegar never put cast parts in, ive done it, it eats em alive. Only brass steel etc. Tension rods and washers chuck em in for approx 2 days. Rusty washers nuts bolts anything thats bad rust chuck em in for 2 days empty then repeat. I then spin em on a drill to bring them up like new. Sometimes they look pitted but once cleaned up they maintain the originality original.
Some more pics of parts that have been cleaned and soaking in metal polish...
You have to make sure that all of the fasteners are ...clean and dry..., if not, they will bleed with moisture changes just like onto that cloth later on.

Thanks for the info Oddball. The last pics were after they had been cleaned i gave them a spraying of WD40. I only assemble as you rightly said when all components are clean and perfectly dry.....Thanks.....sean
