I have been waiting for an old Pearl kit with the script badges

to come along, in any color really.

So finding this one in the tiger eye, was an unexpected bonus

I wish the last owner had not added the cymbal arm bracket

but it is a nice piece of hardware at least

Great score, Kenwood! Your find was actually my last MIJ kit which was a Whitehall. Boy did I miss giving it up. The wrap is so unique!

It must have been tough for you to part with your Whitehall's

coincidentally, I lost out in a similar eBay auction for a tiger eye Whitehall kit about a year ago.

I do have a nice three piece Whitehall kit in black diamond pearl

with the original Whitehall heads ..just bass drum snare and mounted tom ..no floor tom unfortunately

Wow ! Congrats Kenwood !Party Ten lug snare and bass drum is certainly rare on vintage MIJ kits, but seeing how this is a Pearl, this may be an early attempt at the their professional line of drums..

That wrap is better known as the famous "Root beer Swirl" but Pearl called it Tiger Eye.. A friend and fellow forum member "drumfx"has a Beltone (made by Pearl) kit in that exact wrap, only the kick and snare are 8 lugs..

I had a near identical kit with the stick saver style hoops and it turned out to have birch shells rather than the usual vertical grain lauan. Be interesting to see what you find when you open them up

as far as bass drums go I have two other mijs with ten lugs

One is a Crown the other is Olympian both are Hoshino made drums

This is the first time I have found a ten lug snare drum as well as a bass

And I expect you are spot on

about these drums being an early attempt by Pearl at building a pro grade kit

The reason being is

the very first thing I did when I got the drums up into my shop

was remove the batter head off the floor tom

Hello Fayray I saw your reply earlier and it really got my attention

I had the pickup for the drums worked out with my seller for this coming weekend

But I got so anxious and curious by your remarks about the drums being constructed possibly out of birch

that I called the seller and asked him if I might come up for the kit tonight

When I arrived the seller had the drums outside in the dark with only a flashlight to look them over with

I shined the light through the hazy side on the snare

and now, I am no great wood expert

But what I saw, looked to me to be... lets just say "very un-lauan-like"

Still I was not certain until I pulled the batter side head on the floor tom

The drums are indeed identical in wood construction to the pictures you posted

with the grain running horizontal around the shell

One other not so good thing was there is a crack about an inch and a half long running parallel with the grain on the inner ply of the snare drum

I do not think it is too serious or unfixable

but then again I am not completely certain one way or the other

The kit is absolutely filthy and looks also

like someone most likely painted a ceiling with white paint using a roller

with no thought to covering the drums beforehand

as there is a lite dusting of tiny flecks of white paint all over the top of the bass drum

The wrap has a few dings and scrapes but with some elbow grease these old tubs

will really look fantastic

The only difference I can see between my drums and yours

are the floor tom legs

Mine have the angles, where yours, which I would much prefer having,

are the straight style.
