Vintage Ludwig catalogs on CD ROM -Jazzette

Hi. I know I already asked about this awhile back and I do have the link to order one....and, trust me, I will order one. BUT....in the meantime, if any of you already have one of them, then could you PLEASE check through it to determine, once and for all, when the Jazzette model kits were offered as catalog items.

I am trying to write an article about the "saga" behind my 1960's red sparkle Jazzette kits and I can conjure up a lot of personal details/observations about them, but I have no technical data to add.

I have emailed John Aldridge in regards to all this. He's a guy who seems to have a direct connection with Mr. Ludwig...but Mr. Ludwig isn't doing too well health-wise these days, I guess. :(

If things keep going the way they are currently going at this forum, then WE will have the "market" cornered for Jazzette knowledge. Anyway...

Can anyone with one of those CD ROMS take a look? Thanks

So far, no mention in the 64 catalog. It did show up in the 67-1 Catalog

If I do remember I have a Ludwig Drummer that mentions the introduction of the Jazzette.

Let me look through those.

That would be great. Thanks! I think someone mentioned that they found a reference in a '66 catalog.

I think they showed up in catalog '67(printed in 1966). I will have to check through my Ludwig drummers to see if I can find an introduction. Maybe there is a way to get in touch w/ Roy Haynes and see if he was really the first guy to have one and what year it might have been. That guy has done so much I'll be surprised if he can remember what he did last week!

Maybe we can send you pics and info about all of our jazzette kits and get some kind of a list of them going. It looks like someone split up a red sparkle one on the bay.:(

I'll be interested to see this article when it is done. Good luck and long live the jazzette!Walking

I can easily create a section for this on the main web site. I believe I already have the photography on the forum and I can just make it a feature...

Let me know... I have been thinking about it for awhile now, just no time to do the text...

That sounds cool, David! I know the feeling of wanting to possess my own Jazzette page, too. I think the more we all contribute to "the cause", the more Jazzettes we will find! I am ABSOLUTELY in agreement to us consolodating our Jazzette stuff here -whenever possible. It would be a great resource to vintage Ludwig buffs and add yet another attractive and unique feature to this great website!Burger Kin

Cool, I'm all for sharing the information! Believe it or not, not everyone knows about this web site and or this forum.... go figure DOH

With that, the more pages and sites the better. I get a lot of people asking for information from this web site and the other group that just take it without asking, so

let me put something together.

Very similar to DrCJW in sharing his information about Slingerland, it is just a small sample of what he has documented for future release.

I looked through my Ludwig Drummers and no information in the ones I have. I think next I will go through my Down Beat magazines to see if there is any introduction.

Wow! That's VERY interesting...because my set is a 1967 and it's red sparkle WRAP! According to that ad, the finish options were: "mahogany", "natural maple" and lacquer -ONLY". That couldn't be right because mlvibs' Jazzette is blue sparkle wrap. Hmmmm...What's going on?

Plus, I know (99% sure) that I saw a Jazzette in Burlington, Iowa back in the 80's when I was on the road....and it was a red sparkle kit. I got him to sell me the Downbeat snare drum separately and replace it in the kit with a Supra (Ironic, huh?). But what makes it even stranger is the fact that my red sparkle Dopwnbeat snare drum's badge number indicates that it's from 1966! That could mean a couple of things:

A.) I only THINK I remember the kit in Burlington, Iowa back in the 80's when I was on the road -as being a Jazzette, when, in fact, it COULD have been a Downbeat kit with a Downbeat snare(?) BUT...I am almost sure the kit I remember had the small bass drum. It stood out as "unusually small" when I saw that kit the first time.

B.) It was a '67 or possibly a '68 Jazzette kit, but someone had replaced its original snare drum (likely a Supra) with the smaller Downbeat snare -for whatever reason.

C.) The Jazzette I saw, was, in fact a 1966 Jazzette kit with a matching Downbeat snare drum and it just wasn't referenced in the catalog. (?)

D.) Something else I haven't thought of yet
