Vintage Del Rey Drum Set on Craigslist

This is not my kit but I know someone may be interested. Looks like a very nice kit on the Boston site:

60's vintage Del Rey drum set, original red sparkle finish, stick saver hoops, original bass drum pedal fully refurbished to new condition. Sizes are 13, 16, 22 and matching 14 snare. Includes throne, 16" cymbal and stand, snare stand and pedal, brand new coated ambassador heads, with a coated power stroke 3 bass drum head. Excellent condition!

It's got Kenwood written all over it. Used to be my general neck of the woods and I'd take it if it still was, but he's the King of MIJ in the region.

I haven't seen a full complete Del Rey kit. I sent the seller a message asking if he could send me some close ups of the mounts & inside the shells. I can't gather from my one tom who made these, hopefully those details will give the maker away. Beautiful kit.

I can tell you that Del Ray drums normally have Gretsch style lugs and hardware

identical to those used on most Norma badged kits

Yes, that I knew from the one Del Rey tom I have. I'm anxious to get a close up of the floor tom leg brackets and the bass drum mounting plate. Those will hopefully be the giveaway as to maker. The Gretsch style is one of the few that I'm not sure about as far as Pearl,Star,Hoshino.

Jay I am right there with you on that

The kits are so few and far between with the Gretsch clones

But my best guess leans heavily toward Star

Most departures from the norm have been Star projects

They cloned Slingerland Sonor and even Ludwig to a smaller degree

So my guess is the Gretsch look-a-likes were theirs as well
