Vintage cymbal for sale. Just a little "cracked"

I presume "kind" as in material. B8, B15, B20, etc. A Zildjians are B20.

B20 can lose its temper very easily (not that it gets angry) when it is heated. I've been warned off even 150 degrees C. When it loses temper (or untempered early in the production stage) B20 shatters if hit. If the temper is partially lost in a small area (along the edge of the repair) there is a weakened region because you now have two materials with different properties. Traditional wisdom is that longevity is compromised and the sound is changed.

My information isn't from my own experimentation. It is from talking with cymbalsmiths.

I used to break them often as well. I find that playing by myself I perfect technique, but when playing with my band, I tend to play harder and louder. It has taken a long time not to break or even re break my cymbals after repair.

Metal is rough on cymbals lol.

From themazk

I saw that too, I was thinking of getting it, then removing the bell and TIG welding in a new bell section. I have a destroyed 16" Z custom rock crash with a perfect bell lol, I better check my funds lol! Here's an AA hi hat top that had a 4.5 inch crack,I tig welded it...[IMG][/IMG]

did you use any sort of filler wire or just a straight fusion weld? i used to tig weld for living and long considered 'tigging' some of my cracked cymbals. good post, i might have a go or pardon the pun have a crack.

Yes I added filler metal, a straight fusion weld is not really likely with bronze, unless crack is merely a hairline crack, but most cracks have some open root and un-aligned edges.

Here's one I did and I did not support the cymbal properly and the edge warped BAD, sounds very china-ish without the pang. Just a crash with a slight harmonic bend then white noise, kinda rockin actually, for what it is lol.

Thanks! It's amazing to me that after welding, selling and playing on, repaired cymbals for almost 10 years I get so much skepticism lol, so many experts telling me it can't work lol, thanks for the compliment!
