How bout for legs you just cut three sections out of the bottom of the shell, each about 10-12" long by 5 or 6" high creating three legs. Get a little creative and make the cut outs rounded in shape or something like that.

Brilliant! Basically, cut out big ports at the bottom of the shells to let the sound out. When we think of floor toms, we're always thinking "legs" but we overlooked the obvious and simplest solution. DOH

Hi guys,

I did think of that solution, but was afraid it may weaken the structure enough that it would go way out of round near the bottom. When making the first one, I cut the bottom (formerly the top) completely off, and it did go oval near the bottom. Still stands up ok, and sounds fine, but looks a little goofy. I left the heavy rim on the second one and it is much more stable. Maybe the solution is a few big holes near the bottom, but leave the rim in tact.
