I really love this site!...and Bunny, you & I must be brothers from different mothers...you constantly crack me up! Tuning is like a lot of things in music, it's between the ears as well as in the ears. My idea of what sounds good is not someone else's idea of what sounds good, etc. These days it's mostly the producer's idea of what sounds good, probably has been for years & years. You think RIngo came up with all of the sound effects that were used on those albums?...naw, he was like "blime, that sounds far-out mate!"! It's hard to tell now what's triggered, what's electronic or what's sampled & played independently of a drummer...I prefer the old double headed jazz tuning myself, but that's me. A lot of guys try to tune from behind their kits, I always tuned mine to the dance floor and/or room I was playing. Sort of like buying a cymbal, I get someone else to play it while I listen across the room, when you play an acoustic instrument, you need to keep the acoustics in mind and remember that making it sound pleasing out front is more important than making it sound good behind the kit!Just my 2 cents...and that's about what it's worth! LoLoLoLo

Maybe so...

Especially since I agree with your live drum sound philosophy.

The producer of my best song, "Holla (fo a Dolla)" changed the song's arrangement, and made me do take after take until I had so much attitude about it that it came through on the performance- after all, that's why I pay him!!!! What did this story have to do with your post? It reinforces what you have to say about a producer making most of the tonal decisions on a record!!!

And thanks for the kind words!!!!
