I think you solved it! also look at carmines 12x15 and the pink sparkle rogers tom I posted. Same deal, neither looks like bonham's to me
Then you need to change your prescription on your eyglasses/contacts.
This is my last two cents on this issue. You can try to guesstimate with logos, pictures, etc. Someone earlier in this thread brought up Todd Trent. For those of you who don't know who he is, he worked for Ludwig for 25 years, and had many friends in the music business, as well as having a snare actually used by John Bonham along with other Ludwig endorsers in his possession. If Todd says it, I believe it, he is a stand up guy and as far as Ludwig knowledge, he got it all firsthand.....
I do now think it was a 12x14, as weird as that is. I tend to agree with ludwig-dude's line of logic about 12x15's and 10x14's, but based on the photographic evidence it's hard to dispute that the tom in question is in fact a custom built 12x14 with 10 lugs. I knew that both Todd Trent and Paul Thompson had stated that the drum was a 12x14, but I wanted to be sure.
What really convinced me was my error in measuring the size of the logo, which was an inch smaller during a short time in '68 through '69.
katfish over at drumforum caught it:
There was also a reference about the distance of the lugs being about 7 inches apart like the Ludwig logo on his bass drum. The Ludwig logo from 1968-69 was 6 inches long, not 7 inches, so now we may have proof that it was a 12x14?
katfish, I'm glad you mentioned this, and you're exactly right. I was mistakenly using an early 70's replica logo that's 7 inches, and it didn't even occur to me that the late 60's one might be smaller. I measured the logo on an original Oct '68 Ludwig head, and sure enough it's just over 6". Doubled up brings it to about 12.5", meaning the extra gap only leaves room for the drum to be a 14".
Why? Why are you persisting? This is an educational thread. Why are you continuing to take a personal vindictive acidic path. Venom is not needed. Understanding is welcome. I got no beef with you or anyone else on this forum, but this is quite enough of this. I am open to passionate discussions and such. I really am. But when they get personal, then it's no fun anymore. This thread has lost its joy. Thanks for that. Don't get me wrong, you are not the only guilty party here. But, dang! Drop it already. It doesn't take much to ignore a statement or two. That's maturity. I know you are a mature man. There is no question of that. Please, let it go. I thought we had finally reached a point where we were making progress on this thread and focusing on the points. I guess I was wrong. That's really sad.

no no no. He's the one who told me I needed glasses or something? Quote him next time. Hello third grade.. just don't send me to detention ; )
We should ask his son!Coffee Break2. Maybe Bonham ordered two toms to decide which one he liked more. Please don't call me any names because I think neither of you guys are wrong. After all we are never going to know, unless bonham rises from the dead.
i'd like some pictures.. what color are they... don't think Bonham ever played a 8x12 tom..
Sorry it took so long to get back. Send email for pics. I was told Bonham did not play 8X12, but it does not mean Ludwig didn't offer that on the set. I am researching this for more info. If anyone can help with definite info - it would help
