I check in every so often. I lurk a bit. I really do enjoy the knowledgeable members of this forum, and if I think I have something to contribute, I do so.
I can definitely think of places less active than this, where you can FEEL the tumbleweeds blowing through, ha.

A lot of valid points guys - old age, FB, no longer playing etc. have all done there part in the demise of forums like this.Forums like this need younger people to participate, but that's unlikely to happen in any big numbers. I don't want to generalize, but it seems that the majority of Millennials and Gen X'ers don't really have a need for "community" oriented things like forums. I'm not sure exactly what they have a need for, because all kinds of associations, groups, church's etc., are struggling to find ways of attracting these groups, and it seems few, if any, have been successful. Many associations and groups are simply aging out, because they can't bring any young people in. The attention span of these generations seem a little short! lol. I also don't think they are playing music like the boomers did, basically because they have been brought up on a lot of throw-away, talentless, mindless drivel, not to mention that a lot of it is computer driven, with few instruments being used. Lead guitar and drum solo's mean nothing to these kids. It's not their fault really, as record producers endlessly pushed quick, sell it now, boy band/sexy girl pop music non-sense, flash-in-the-pan garbage on them. Guitar Hero brought some of these wayward kids back to real music and musicality for awhile, but that has passed. The jazz community is a fraction of what it once was as well.So, there are definitely reasons for this down-turn, and I'm not sure it can be fixed. The world moves on, and some things fall away. Anyway, I to like this forum a lot. For me, it's the best of the bunch that are out there. So keep up the good work Tommyp!
Talk about your generalizations about generations......Gen-X generation here, and I was involved here a a regular many years back and really haven't posted much in a long time.
I'll tell you why too........first, too many of those "how much is...." questions over and over. Second reason, sheer boredom with the hobby. As others said, its like the same 20 or so people always posting...almost like their own private clique (something I never considered myself part of). Third, too many people that just want to argue for the sake of arguing with in basis in fact on their argument. Fourth, just plain changes in interests. I don't play out anymore and I only own one drum that is considered "vintage" now.....my 68 supraphonic. In some circles its not considered vintage, in others it is. The rest of what I currently own is from the late 80's and I don't consider them vintage....although millenials do consider them vintage now. About perspective I guess.
Those are my PERSONAL reasons anyway.
I still peruse the forum from time to time, but after reading the same questions I read 10 or 12 years ago that someone posted an hour ago, I remember why I stopped chiming in all the time. The info was there from the beginning, seems that people either don't know how to look for it correctly or just can't be bothered. It got aggravating, annoying even. So I just quietly slipped out. Seems many others have over the years as well.

Research is a small part of what forums offer, but that is not there main purpose. Sure, we can just look things up, (and we do) but where is the fun in that? How do we make aquaintances? How do we really learn without the interaction? It's about community. Folks are here to learn, but they also want to make friends and associations. And I'm sorry you are bored with our questions, and for sure you can ignore them, but thank goodness there is a "clique" here that likes answering them, or this forum wouldn't exist. I really haven't seen the arguing you speak of, but maybe I haven't been around long enough.
You've moved on and that's cool, but remember you were a newbie once to and guys were good enough to help you and answer your questions.

I'm singing this note cuz it fits in well with the way I'm feeling,...I can't pretend there's any meaning hidden in the things I'm say'n,...But I'm in tune, right in tune.
This is not a dating site, nor is it a fashion show and if you introduce politics, you'll be placed between two Hi Hats and played. We can deal with "cymbols", and drums that
"resonate" for weeks, but no politics or else.
We don't want a "like" button nor are we creepy "followers" so we follow at our own risk. You wont get famous here as a member and that's just fine with me.
Vintage, as you know relates to old, which most of us are,..and we can tell a drummer by what he says not just hearing them play. And yea,...we put divots in our heads sometimes because we really play. and no, we don't want our drums to resonate by the Season, till I hit the next drum is good enough. I'm allowed to stay because it's been proven over and over that you can learn a lot from a dummy.
You'd be surprise to find who has been in and out and still here on this site.We keep a low profile and clean content so it's very unattractive to the haters and young blood full of competitiveness if I even spelled that right.
So if it's quiet for a spell, it only means nobody needs help yet or wants to talk Ringo kits and champagne sparkle round badges.......
Most of us like to chew our food first. But we are not beyond spit balls either.
