The MIJ Guide - Gathering Info -

So as I'm sure there are more names I do not have on my list, I would like to at least get the names that I do have associated with every variety of badge that carried them. Ideally I'd like to try and get badges on complete kits so we can get accurate makers ( Pearl,Star, Hoshino ) This way we can also easily ID kits without badges if we know they are unaltered. I'm going to go about this in alphabetical fashion and am calling on the help from all my fellow forum members for help.

Someone may have beat you to it.

Is this the kind of thing you were looking to do?

http://www.vintagedrumguide.com/japanese_drums/list_of_names.html

That list is very informative, but is by no means complete. Maybe you, along with the rest of us, can help update it?

I like your enthusiasm. I'm sure all of our collective heads can help make that list shine like a brilliant finish crash!

Yes that list does exist and is helpful. However it lacks in many ways. Main one being there were three Japanese drum makers, not the commonly believed two. Subsequently it's also been noted that Pearl started making drums that had previously been made by Star. Also adding to the " who done it? " So my main goal isn't just to have a list of names. But rather know as positively as we can that this badge was made by company A from 65-69 then by company B from 70-75. Or only this company made these drums based on the lugs,hardware,etc... I guess in the end I'm trying to make a complete MIJ guide that includes as much information as possible. So if you have an un badged kit that has original factory parts, it can be determined what it is pretty accurately. Right now we have good estimated guesses, and I think on the whole we do get it figured out. But here and there we see a kit that defies what we think we know.

I think I have the name, but never saw the badge on any drum before. That looks like a non star Hoshino. I have the same strainer on my Crown snare. Only other one I've seen that on. Well we have one more name added for Hoshino.

Many thanks my friend!

- Just looked through my list. The one I have written is " Hy-Lo " there could be two different versions. Something else to look into.
