I would have retired long ago if i had picked up and stashed all the 14's that i came across in my life. x-mas3
The 14x14 Remains Highly Sought
Not sure if they are overrated or just overpriced, but that seller goes by Strum und Bang, so that alone is a clue they don't get it. Strum and Roll might have been a better choice.
I look at it as people rating a drum dictating how it's priced.
If that was true, a Phonic 22 BD would fetch 100 grand !
This guy's probably thinking Starkey = $$$$$$ thanking his fans.
Even a match drum for a kit or a celeb. inspired get's $$$$ not $$$$$$.
Now that Top Hat that Skins showed, $$$$$$ all day.

Sorry guys, but I love seeing high prices on vintage drums. I can't afford to spend that kind of money on a drum....but someone can. Anyone who can afford a 12K floor tom and wants it, should have it. *shrugs*
You can have all the money in the world but you still shouldn't feed the bears !i

As someone who has an original 14x14 in Oyster Black I say more power to him if he can get that sort of money. I think I paid $500 for mine about 18 years ago. Most I've paid for a 14x14 was nearly $1k for a Gretsch one in Tangerine sparkle. That was quite a few years back as well. Many long hunts for drums in this size over the years. Usually managed to bag one eventually but none have been exactly bargain priced. The last "original" one I bought was actually a Ludwig Standard that had been stripped and it still went for $250 on ebay.
Going forward my plan is to clone any I might need. I can get a 3 ply "Ludwig spec" shell for around $200...brand new and perfect...and build out from there for a lot less than trying to buy the real deal. I did that when I needed a Burgundy Sparkle 14x14.
K.O.'s plan to build his own 14x14 appeals to me. If a drummer MUST have a drum of that size to complete his dream drum set for gigging or at home, why not build one for a fraction of the cost of buying one if it can be found?

You did a fantastic job on that FT. So good you should have carried it to the factory and knocked on the door and told them,....."look, you forget,....it's time now !i
