just bought this Tama Imperialstar in 24"/13"/14"/18" for 150Euro, there are 4 lugs missing on the 14" Tom but the rest seems quite ok:-) It has rerings in the Toms and Bassdrum!
It is really dirty but even with the crap heads it sounds quite good!
Can somebody give me a hint wich year it might be made?
Mid 70's to very early 80's .Yours have the "one touch" mufflers still.Tama stopped putting mufflers on drums in the early 80's.

Great find. The lugs are the same as my 'Royal Star's' from the last year/s of Star.
So I would date your set a very early 'Metallic White' Tama: approx. 1974. Are the shells very heavy, with multiple layers?

You can decode the VIN#'s on many Tama badges. But by hardware and re-rings I'd narrow it down to mid-late 70's. I don't know if the earliest Imp's had ball-socket mounts or the wrench-type L-rod mounts. Those drums are collectable, as so many sets were played hard and left to rot...
After viewing the '78 catalog,I'd say post-'78 as there is no "Omni-Ball in that catalog.

The omniball is NOT the original Tomholder on that Set, i put it there because i had that one for spare! The one i put on the set has the writting Imperialstar on it, it is probably one from a later period. Thisone is better to set the toms right, the original one the wrench-type L-rod mount(wich i got with the set)is not so comfortable;-)
I would also date it earlyier than 78:-)

I still have a kit like this my mother got for me when I graduated high school in 1979. The configuration was a Tama Imperialstar Saturn 6, which was (2) 22 kicks, 13,14 & 16 toms. They are mahogany and have a huge sound. Good luck with them.
